where do i go to run the vins on the tranny and find out if it is stolen are not????
for a B16 tranny?

 

older b16 tranies did not have a vin plate
most of the time the vin plate is removed for newer trannies if its stolen.

 

You can run the Vins just like it you were checking a car..So you can do a CarFax but ill cost you..Or maybe call the police station or BMV and tell um there is a car on your street thats been there for a few days you wanted to know if they can come tow it.And give them the vin.I did that with a car that was at my dads house when he had bought it and was fixing it in the drive way.It wasnt stolen,turned out to be the neighboors

 

make sure you do the check before you buy it. if you get curious after the fact be prepared to loose your tranny if it's hot

 

Can you just call the dmv/police station and say I am buying XXX and this is the VIN. Will they actually check it for you?

 

lol, whats a "BMV"? yeah, i'm sure that the police would be able to tell you. think, by the time your done readin all this you could have had it installed already and forgot about the possibility.

 

carfax won't show if the tranny is stolen. if the car was stolen it might show up as having a salvage title, but wrecked cars obviously get salvage titles too. also, just because the car was stolen before doesn't mean that the engine swap was taken; sometimes people just steal the interior or exterior parts. the op's best bet would be to call the local city or county police and ask them.
