Default d15 power gains?

ive been reading alot lately that you can create more horsepower from using dohc zc internals into a d15/d16 engine to create some pretty nice horsepower gains. i have a d15b2, d15b7, and dohc zc engine and i was wondering since i wanna go with a n/a setup to make horsepower gains what would i need to do in order to make that happen, also what kind of power would i be expecting? i also have a y6 vtec head that i wanna throw into the mix also. anyone with any knowledge would be great help because i want to get started this weekend.

this is true.. if you have the time you can put the zc bottom end in the 1.5 block. the domed pistons give it a bump in compression and the extra .1 displacement can't hurt either.

but don't be dissapointed.. we are still talking <120hp spinning its guts out

There isn't a whole lot you can do NA to a D series. The only real option for them to make power is via turbo setups. If you don't want to go that route, don't be surprised when you put money into it and get little out.

it's true you'll never see big numbers from a N/A D-series without a ton of money.

since you've said that this is what you want to do nonetheless, but you don't have much info yet check this site out to see what diff. combos get you...

http://www.zealautowerks.com/dseries.html

decide how much money you want to spend upfront so you can decide if you should build a nother D to drop in over a weekend or if you're going to do small things like a cam and tune, which wouldn't require the motor to be pulled all to pieces.

my D16 with bolt-ons, high quality oil and spark plugs is fun to drive. neat sounds, a little zip, cheap and reliable. i'm not trying to win races, and that's what all-motor D is about: fun and cheap transportation.

so you have no vtec head at all? because u would make the best power i think with a ZC bottom end in a d15 block with a Z6/y7(non-vtec)/Y8 head.

There is a lot of power to be made from the little d15. You just need to have the right combination of parts. And it will cost you less than doing a swap.... I spent less than $1600 to achieve my gains.

Yeah, he's got a vtec head.

To the op, tossing those ZC internals in the d15 block and popping on your Y6 head would be the best option to get a little more pep out of that shell working with the parts you have on hand already.

If you add I/H/E, a good cam, maybe a lighter flywheel and more agressive clutch. It won't be a beast or anything like that. But it will be a fun and peppy car for booting around town in.

ya i recommend a 8lb or a 12lb FW. and get a bisimoto heat shielding intake manifold gasket, which adds a good 7-10WHP (dyno proven). get a bisimoto or another good header (if you have the $ for it, otherwise just get a cheap ebay one), and a decent exhaust (not a ricy one pls). Use a Y8 IM/TB as it flows the beset IMHO. u should make some decent power. Since your going all motor, get a Z6 or a Y8 Tranny with the shorter gears. Unless your cable, then you can get a CRX Si cable tranny.

yeah i got a vtec head for it, aem intake, dc headers, some exhaust that already came with the car when i got it. yeah im not looking to race it or anything like that, just something to drop into a 4-door ef. so should i just swap all the internals from the zc or should i leave some stuff out? also, could i use the tranny from the zc or would i have to use the one it came with. keep in mind that the dohc zc came out of an 88 integra ls if that makes any difference at all.

well if u have an EF then its a cable tranny so u have to use something cable. Like the ZC tranny, although that **** is so WIDE that its basically useless. Get a CRX Si Cable tranny, its really short and will do the job.

i was told that the zc tranny was the closest to an Si tranny with short gears. ive driven the zc while it was in the integra and the gears were pretty damn short, at least shorter than the tranny in my del sol.

what do you consider short? maybe its the other ZC tranny that is wide then, because my friend told me he had a ZC tranny in his old teg and they could cruise on the highway in 3rd gear.

lol. i dont want to use the stock d15 tranny because those gears are wayyyyy long. i drove it for a while before it broke down and ended up with that and the integra. i need to junk the integra and figured i could put the engine to good use. all i need to know is that does the tranny from the zc line up with the d15 and would i have to use different axles for it too?

no its interchangeable. I have no idea what the ZC lines up with, if the gears are short then probably an Si tranny.

spend 1500 on that...

Or get an Ls motor and make the same hp and get another 30 lb feet torque.

You could buy a 96-up EX trans or you can just buy a FD. Not that hard.
