Cleaning the OEM Cd player?
Hey guys,
Just wondering about how to clean the OEM cd player in the 03 accords, Its having a hard time recognizing cd’s, and then spits it out after it cant read it. It reads most (80%) of the real cd’s (but not all) and burned cd’s are about 30% of time. I dont want to carry around the real stuff all the time because theres alot of car prowls around where I live.
It’s a 03 accord V6, with the 6 disc cd player

One way to clean a CD player is to get a cleaning CD that will clean the laser/lens.
Some times the CD player may not recognize CD+R, CD-R or other formats and so playng pre recorded CDs may give you a hard time.

any other suggestions? when the car was brand new it had no problems with a real or burned cd, just last year it started to reject most of the burned cd's and takes in about 70% of real cd's, even if its not scratched.
No DIY is necessary. Just make sure you don't fiddle with the eject mechanism as it's precisely calibrated. All you should need to do is remove the top cover of the player and should be able to see the laser right there. Grab the Q-tip, dip it in 90%+ rubbing isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol clean the lens with one end, let it dry, then wipe it with the other end of the Q tip. Reassemble the unit and presto, it should work; there isn't a whole lot to it.

Try using the cleaning CD with the brushes on it. I have the same issue. I don't think the Honda CD players in 2003 were made to read burned CD's. Same issue with my 1999 Accord which I have a 2002 6 disc player in. They don't read burned CD's easily. No problem with my Subbie though

For one thing, assuming you unscrewed every screw that appears relevant, you should try to slide it off. Carefully examine the item and see what the screws do, the various folds and where the metal is separated and together. My guess is, it's a metal cover slid on top of a metal base.
