Type R or GSR swap????
would it be more worth wild getting a type R swap for around 4-5K....or getting a gsr around 2.5 - 3K and just upgrading the gsr motor???
if getting a gsr swap...and spending $1000 on upgrades...what upgrades would you guys prefer???
i'm not too big on racing...i'm just thinking of a decent, project DD for summer - with decent power...and there's A LOT of knowledgable peepo on this site

you're prices are off. a full type r swap is 3500 and a gsr swap is 2600-2900 depending on if you want an LSD or not. as far as which to buy, it's all opinion. buy what you want, not what someone tells you they would get.
if the question is as simple as: would i rather have 1000 to mod a GSR or a type r to start with. that's easy, the type r. i've seen countless GSRs with stage 1 cams, headers, way over 1000 in mods barely breaking 94-95mph in the 1/4. the jdm R will pull 96-98 depending on the tire, air temp, driver and car weight. in fact, just this last weekend i raced a guy with a b20 vtec that spent 6k on the combo, it still lost to my factory stock ITR engine. mods are all about knowing what you're doing. if you don't you will spend a lot to go slow.

Go ITR. The GSR is nice for midrange power, but you'll eventually spend $$ on getting a new intake manifold, headwork, (cams, valve springs, p&p, etc), header, etc to keep up with a type r and for probably more $$$ than just buying the ITR swap itself. Don't forget the LSD tranny. If you've never driven a FWD car with a LSD, you should try it - you'll love it (of course not as much as RWD, but it's all we got!).
I have a GSR right now and I plan on swapping for a ITR soon. $3500 is a great deal in my opinion.
Just listen to idrivesideways, he has a lot of good information.

you would really have to bring the weight down or the traction up. with slicks and a hard launch it could happen. on street tires they do mid 14s. drop weight and run MT slicks...13.9 could happen. of course running those slicks likely means going with a more aggressive clutch. organic discs hate slicks.
Thanks for the info guys. You'd think a DC2 with a JDM ITR swap with I/H/E would break into the 13's if a FG2 (06+ Si's) can pull a 13.9 with all the bolt-ons. But anyways, thats not the point. Either way it sounds like the ITR swap makes for a quick car that's ready for the track
I find it hard to beleive a Type R would break into the 13's. Don't mark my words or anything...but CAI/Header/Test Pipe/Cat back/untuned and Riding the clutch to not bog my launch netted me 14.744.
A I have had the same question when my GSR motor died i just went type R b/c when u do the same mods u will get better power went I got the ITR i made a big differ go ITR
What was your trap speed? It also depends on if you're short shifting. I'm sure someone would have to be banging the gears to get into the 13's.
it's still nearly impossible at stock weight. the 60ft is one place you can work on shaving time but that requires a clutch and slicks. the 14.7 quoted above is a typical full weight time. this engine combo in a crx could crack 13s but there we are with the weight again.
I don't remember my trap speed. That was 2 years ago. Does the OP have a CRX? And yea, that was full weight. Full interior. Spare tire, and small subwoofer in the trunk...oh, and 4 door too. My brother ran the EXACT same time with a DC. Almost same exact mods. My whole point being. Depending on what OP wants to do, that should determine which engine to go with. Fair enough?
ehh, i think i would prefer a gsr swap. less money, and more money for paint, or wheels or something simple. and to the guy who said this, how in the hell do you figure a
type r would be more reliable than a gsr? wtf...
