1993 del sol Si headgasket repair....help!
alright my brothers del sol blew a head gasket and we changed it out and now the only thing that is keeping us from testin is the timing belt. when we took the head off it was easy to get the belt to slip off. but now we cant seem to get it back on. how are we suppose to get it back on with out damaging it? is there some trick to get it on? hopefully we dont have to take lots of stuff apart. thanks for any help!
how can i get to it? i cant fit my hand to get the little rubber thing off. is there a way to do it it with out taking the whole engine out? thanks again!
Theres always a way.. just try and loosen the tensioner first. Then start with the alignment of the cam gears.. make sure the marks are on the "up" position and that the arrows point towards each other on the side.. Then turn your crank until the mark lines up with the mark on the block. Start with the belt on the crank, around the tensioner and your way up the cam gears.. after you can get a flat head screw driver and use it as leverage to pull the tensioner up and then you tighten it.. If it helps you can always remove the drive side motor mounts. Theres no trick.. it just takes time and patience and a little experience.

thanks! i will look into that. i jsut put in a request for thursday off at work that way i have a whole day to mess with it. and sthis is a Sohc D16z6 motor. im some what glad its only a little bit of tension that needs to be removed to get the belt back on. but thanks again.
I just did my headgasket on my d15b7. I didn't lossen the tensioner same as you. you can get it on,you just need to use a little muscle, maybe a third hand. you'll get it

well i got the belt on the cam gear just the thing is that it is off by like 1/2 or 1 tooth from where i marked it. yo uthink that it will make the engine go boom? or can i adjust it throuhg the distributor to get it to run right? if i cant waht can i do to get it were the cam and stuff need to be? or is it possible to take the belt off and then rotate the crank to wear it is at TDC and then move the camshaft to where it is at tdc? *(with th e marks lined up?)
pull the belt off. put the cam gear and crank pulley both at TDC. put the belt back on and give the engine 2 full rotations, meaning have the cam gear make 2 full rotations, the crank pulley will make 4 rotations, counter-clockwise. check to see if they both are still at TDC. if the are your fine. as long as they're both at TDC don't worry about your marks being off
all right im going to use the TDC marks on the Camshaft and the crank shaft to line everything up. if i line those up i should be good to reset the ignition timing and check the compression? thanks!
