Well as the title describes. 5th gear pops out after checking the shift cable for corrosion, replaced 5th gear synchro, check MTF OK. Has anyone has this same problem with 5th gear????

 

I was goingto say synchro because that is what happened to me. But i do not know what to say. Possably a bad tranny all togeather. D17 has very ween tranny

 

My mechanic checked everything out everything inside the tranny as far as the gears syncro.

1-4 works perfectly
Reverse works perfectly
5th gear is the one that pops out.

no grinding of gears, not even when i put the car in reverse.

alot of these threads talk about shift forks???? any ideas.

nothing fancy, just for fun. I was never really technical on doing it myself. But now for some reason i find it interesting as a personal hobby to build an 03 civic hatch from the ground up.

Dude the only thing I would guess is your MTF but you said you already checked that. If I was you I would top it off just to be safe. I know mine started doing this all I had to do was fill it up and it hasn't done it since.

 

its topped off and still no luck. i have gone through different forums and find that it could be a shift fork problem. im guessing. does anyone have additional information that would help me out with this??

times right now are hard, so im trying to find the best way out.

 

does it sometimes pop out of 3rd also? I had a problem with the shifter popping out of 3rd and 5th, turned out to be a sticky pivot ball at the base of the shift lever. Try giving that a squirt with some WD or lithium grease.

 

I know honda makes a updated case half for that trans and I would say shift forks and also the 4-5 sleeve and hub. Go to your local honda dealer and ask them about any service bullittens on your problem.

 

its either the slider is ****ed up, the synchro spring, the synchro(you cant tell its the synchro just by looking at it unless its really bad) or the bearing. rarely is it ever a shift fork.

 

it could even be a broken shift selector, or cracked.

same thing happened with my civic but now 5th doesn't work at all, it poped out one day and never went back in

 

same thing happened to me just the other day my 5th was popping out so i checked the tranny fluid and it was almost empty . i filled it up and now it's good as new

 

yea, agreed. check the fluid. is there any grinding at all when you shift?

 

last time this happened to me it turned out to be my tranny fluid..it was low

 

My 5th popped out, ripped apart the trans and it was worn/bent shift forks and beat up gear selectors. Probably what happened to you.

 

Same thing happened to me. It just ended up being low trans fluid due to a wrong axle installed.

 

X2. My 5th gear popped out a few times shortly after a swap. I just forgot to top off the tranny fluid. Filled her up with honda MTF and all is well.

 

so what im reading here is to watch the tranny fluid level with these 7th gens huh? ive never had this happen to me, but i'd like to avoid it.

The car is level when checking right?
How long since youve done a fluid change?

dude..fluild is not going to solve the popping issue. fluid can't hold gear in place. the tranny is gone. get a new one.
