Default Installing Aftermarket Tachometer

Hey guys,

I just bought a tach for my '90 Honda Civic (HB), and I've run into a bit of an installation problem. The tach instructions tell me to hook a wire to the coil... but my car doesn't have one. (The motor is a D15b1, if that helps.)

So how do I hook this bad boy up?

Buy a 90-91 Civic Si/CRX SI Cluster and sell your aftermarket tachometer, SI clusters of the same year are plug and play.
Also, it means the distributor. there is a wire you have to splice to use an aftermarket cluster.

I'm not installing a whole cluster, just the tachometer.

Anyway, I think I figured it out.

kk, Go ahead and spend the extra time, i'm just trying to save you time and money.
Cluster comes off with 6 easy screws.
2 for the hood, and 4 holding the cluster...

It's one of the wires that on the 2-wire plug, don't remember what color it was i just ripped out the tach the previous owner put in and installed an SI Cluster.

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence or anything. Thanks for looking out for my best interest, but I'm not keeping this car, I'm doing a quick flip to make some money, and I already have the tach, so I'm just going to go with that.

And thanks for helping me out. I'll go check it out.

So it's the blue wire on the two-wire harness coming off of the distributor?

I popped the dist. off and it appeared that it was the blue wire. I'll check it all out tomorrow for clarification. Thanks for the help, Radim.

Yup, blue wire off the two wire harness on the distributor.
You might also be able to use the same colored wire coming from behind the cluster so that you won't have to run a wire to your engine bay.

Yeah. I think it comes out of the harness on the firewall by the driver's side. I think I could just splice into it right there.
