Default wire tuck, need wire

I'm working on tucking some wires and the fuse box. I need to get a good lenght of wire that goes from the battery to the fuse box (+). anybody know if thats a special shielded wire for heat / voltage? I'm not to privy on stuff like that and want to make sure i wont burn up my car with generic napa wire... ?

ps. i noticed that its extremely thick insulation on there and doesnt bend easy at all.. so thats why i'm asking

Go to your local parts store or welding supply store. Welding cable is very fine strand wire for good conductivity and flexibility, the finer/higher number of strands in the wire, the more resistant it is to repeated flexing. All the fancy stereo wire you get at the stereo store that is $5/foot is just welding wire with fancy clear insulation. They should have bulk rolls of it in sizes from 8ga all the way up to 00ga.

One more thing, just get the welding cable that is the same gauge or larger depending on the distance you are going. If you have 10ga that is a foot long and you want extend the harness a couple more feet with larger wire, I wouldn't use 10ga to extend it, I would go up to a 8 or 6 ga if you going any distance. Also, solder and heatshrink your wires together and then cover it with palstic conduit for a really clean look and route the wire so it isn;t streched too tight accross anything and does not chaff on any body metal so in 20,000mi you won't have a short to ground or anything else bad because it rubbed through. P.S. I have never done a "wire tuck" but have done tons of general wiring repairs on customers vehicles so I hope this helps.

Go to your local Car Audio store. Most of them will sell you wire by the foot or how ever long you need. Plus , they carry many different colors. From the battery to the fuse box I would go with 8 gauge on the positive side. But you must also have an equal ground. 8 gauge for the ground also.. When you are trying to get 12 volts positive, you need 12 volts negative to achieve that.

harbor freight!! you can buy a whole assortment of wire for cheap. as far as a certain size, i would just stay around what is currently in there. and obviously you don't want too thick, then it won't be easy to tuck, lol. here's a link to the wire on harbor freight. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...temnumber=3384
