Default Head Clearances

Ok well I was pre-assembling my head(ITR), to check clearances and what not. So i get the valves, vs in and i put the cams(S2P2) in. The exhaust cam, on the cam gear end doesnt sit in the groove, so i put the cam caps on and torque it down to see if it would make any difference, but while the cam sits in the groove now it wont turn freely. Is this something a machine shop can take care of, or is the head ****ed.

Also I know its not the cams, because my tuner2's didnt fit either. im guessing the head can probably be machined. But i was just wondering what the trust all-motor honda guys thought.

bc i told you where it is binding up, at the cam gear end. the last "groove". i was more asking the people who do machine work or have had a similar problem.

If you cant post pics, you need someone who knows what they are looking at the check it out. Someone cant just say oh its this or that just because you say it doent sit in the groove, and no you cant machine cam caps or the head area they sit in. Cams wont turn freely by hand they have the valve spring to compress as they rotate

well im glad you know what your talking about bc they do rotate freely until the lobe is in contact with the rocker assembly. i will post pics later. can you post a reason why you cant machine them, or is it just another guess.

Are you using any kind of assembly lube. Torque down your cams and measure the bore. Then measure the journal on the cam and see how much clearance you have.

yes, im using assembly lube and i tried putting a feeler gauge in there and the is absolutely no clearance on the exhaust cam, i know thats not the method your talking about but its the same difference, just less work lol. i suppose i could break out the micrometer and what not. but i doubt it will make a difference.

Anyone know whether you can machine the head where the cam actually sits?

Found out my answer...you can machine it. Its called a line bore where they bore all the journals out to make them straight. i guess my head is alittle warped.

Camshaft-to-Holder Oil Clearance:
Standard New: 0.050-0.089 mm
(0.0020-0.0035 in)
Service Limit: 0.15 mm (0.006 in)

For an H series but im not sure about a B series Dont think there would be to much differance.

doesnt matter really, bc it wont move at all, not just when it hits the rocker assembly.
