Default loose timing belt.

i have a d16y7.the timing belt has been loose 4 like 2 months already.i drive it it runs fine.but should i try and tigthen it or buy a new one.or could it be sumthing else?

Tighten it first, when you do check for wearing on the belt or little cracks in it.

sounds like your tensionier went out. this happened to me with my 91 hatch, and the car ran but was making a lound noise because the belt was rubbing against the timing belt cover.

replacing the tensioner requires taking the timing belt off. Pretty much the same amount of work involved as replacing the belt altogether.

But it can be done easily by removing the timing belt covers, puting the timing to tdc, and then loosening everyting up and popping it out and putting a new one in.
