AWD 6spd trans on mini me?
Hey,
I was just wondering if it can be done, has anyone done it? I'm wondering because it's longitudinally, or horizontally i forgot which one is which, opposed so it doesn't have a drive shaft going to the back. So can you bolt it up to say a d15b1 mini me?

The RT4WD manual transmission from the 88-91 Civic Wagovan is in fact a 6 speed transmission. However, SL gear is not all that useable on a day to day basis. A normal 1st gear in most of the Hondas is around 3.25:1. The SL gear is 4.512:1, so at 7,200 rpm in SL, you'd get about 15mph (guess). It's up and to the left of the normal 1st gear position.
The mounting of the RT4WD transmission is the same as all the other Civics - transverse. The drive to the back wheels is through a transfer case that turns the output 90 degrees and comes off the back of the transmission very near where your header would come out. The Rt4WD uses an intermediate shaft like a B series, so if you're mounting it to your D15 block, you have to be sure the 3 mounting points for the intermediate shaft bolts are there (aound the oil filter area) and that the holes are threaded for bolts. You then need to use Wagovan front axles, as I think the diff uses different inner joints (not 100% sure on this one).
You could use this transmission on a FWD car, but unless you wanted to send the power rearward, there would be no advantage whatsoever from a performance point of view over a conventional FWD tranny. Oh, and this transmission uses a cable shifter system like a K series or an H22, not shifter rods like the FWD Civics and Integras. The ratios are actually pretty decent though:
SL - 4.512
1st - 3.384
2nd - 1.950
3rd - 1.275
4th - 0.941
5th - 0.783
FD - 4.428

hmmmm, I'm doing my best to not hate...I'm also REALLY trying to make myself look at your "join dates"...
There IS a memeber with an ef that has the rt4wd system in it....car is still d-series, and it's boosted.
They DID make "6 speed" tranny, it's a primary 5 speed that has a SL (super low)...
as for the swap, peep the H-T members thread, he basically took everything from a rt4wd Wagovan, tranny, drivetrain, and fab'ed it to 90 Si hatch...
