Hey everyone,

I have a DOHC ZC complete swap for a 4th gen Civic/Crx and I thought I would be nice and let a friend have it and make low payments. The only thing is he has eg8 sedan. For the trans we're planning to pull apart my old ZC cable transmission and swap out the drive gear with a hydro DX trans. I have a B18b ecu I was going to give him to use. I know im going to have to use newer shift linkage and what not too. But, I have a couple things I need to figure out yet. I've searched on Google, and here and came up with nothing.

Some questions I have are:

Can I use the ZC half shaft, and some other type of axels? or should/can I use the axels off the original trans, which was an automatic.

What distributor should I use with it?

Should it mount in place without any troubles using newer standard transmission and engine mounts?

Finally the only source of information I got said the swap would be illegal because were putting an older engine in a newer car. Is this true? Around where I live we have no emissions to worry about, so I dont see why itd be considered illegal.

My friend doesn't have a lot of money and we're trying to keep this kind of cost effective. so any information is appreciated, thank you.

 

i heard its illegal but i wouldnt think so in your state since you dont have to worry about emissions

 

Use any D-series hydro tranny. You can use the axkes from the sedan (automatic and manual '92 - '00 D-series axles are all the same except that driver's side automatic axles have a vibration damper)

OBD1 DOHC ZC is the only thing that fits, they are hard as hell to find and usually pricey. You can get a D15B7 distributor on there if you use the cam cap from a B18A1 (don't ask me how I know this)

If you use a hydro tranny then yes.

My advice is don't do it. DOHC OBD1 ZC distributors are rare and expensive, and did I mention rare?, then theres the matter of chipping the ECU to run the thing correctly (you can run a ZC with a P06, but you can definately tell its not optimal (i've personally done it before) your best bet is to run a P06 chipped with P29 maps. At this point a very cheap swap has turned into a not so cheap swap, still not expensive, but enough that its no longer overlly attractive.
