Default Overflowing gas tank

ok so this morning when i woke up and went to get in my crx. me and my friend smelt gasoline so we got out and saw that my gas door had been overflowing. i had gotten gas the day before and only put 6 gallons in and the car had been parked all night. for the gas to randomly stream out like this is kind of awkward. I have asked some people with no success. Anyone experience this before?

That would definitely account for it if the tank was nearly full.
