Our cars get old, and parts start to become weak and faded. I decided to make a how to on removing and installing the Civic(hatch/Sedan/CRX) door sills. This is the part on the door the meets the window(usually coated black, tends to fade and crack)
I used my 4 door sedan as an example and its easier on the 2 door models.
Tools you will need in order to do this easy task:

Gloves, phillips screw driver, Flat head screwdriver, REPLACEMENT Door/Window sills, Extra clips
So here is an example of a faded and cracked window sill:
Pics from my 4 door
Before

Step 1:
Use your phillips screwdriver and begin to undo the 4 screws the hold the sideview mirror onto your car. You can do both sides while you have the tools out (my sedan only has 1 side view mirror so ill just take off the mirror delete on the other.)

Step 2:
After you have the screws and sideview mirror off youll notice that the outside also has a small silver screw that holds the door sill onto the car. please remove that and store it away safely(mine was black and was changed out)

Step 3:
When the screws are taken off, begine to pry 1 side at a time. i started on the front then began to pry the rear, and so on. Also did the passenger side as well. NOTE: please use your flat head for this step and remember that the clips only come off when you place the flat head underneath. the flat head screwdriver should be used to raise the molding off the door. look at the pics for more reference.

Step 4:
Examine the moldings and look for broken clips. If they break they usually fall into the car. I didnt break any clips so i was just lucky. i went to the junkyard to get extra clips from cars just in case. so i suggest you do that also.

Step 5:
while the moldings are off, begin to prepare the new molding for preparation for install. I took the clips off the old door sill and used them on the new one. NOTE: To remove a clip use the flat head to pry the clip off gently towards the rounded groove underneath the molding. See pics for reference. As for reinstalling th clips please make sure each clip sits at the indent where the door meets the molding

Step 6:
Before installing the New molding and clips make sure you align the clips with the marks on the door and slowly begin push in the molding.

IF YOU HAVE A FOUR DOOR! PLEASE READ:
The door sills come with a little green clip the clips into the door after the molding seats into the door. remember to clip this in after the installation! or your molding will fall off!

The door sillsThe rounded edge of the clip should sit behind the flat edge of the door, the little tail on the clip should sit behind! if it doesnt fit dont force it in!!! remove the molding again and retry untill it seats properly!!
Step 7:
While you begin to master seating each molding down remember to screw in the little silver screws that hold the molding to the door. Applies to ALL CARS.
Step 8:
Remember to install your sideview mirrors or delete along with the 4 screws
Stand back and admire your work!
here is my finished product, I used the LX/EX, chrome/ stainless window moldings instead of the black DX ones. Flashy huh?

By this time you have completed installing your door sills!
WOW they arent cracked anymore!

ya i know. its worth the price if your trying to build a show quality car. but at the moment im short on money. and plenty of cars at the yards provide good parts. i can imagine most of these cars were garage kept if the moldings still survived 20 years

Thanks! I am going to do this replacement this weekend. I went to some junk yards and everything you posted worked perfect except getting off the white clips, kept breaking or popping off everywhere. I got the pieces, now just need to put them on.

to take off the clips:
from the molding......you get your flat head and gently pry the rounded edge inside the molding....its the curved piece and push inward and itll slide out.
from the car. you slide your flat head into the slit and pry upwards gently. and if it doesnt come off youll have to pry towards the door cover and pry the curved piece. ill get some more detailed pics from the junkyard for you guys.
youll get better at it. but i know its a bitch to see faded crusty moldings.
ill also do a write up on how to remove the door moldings from 4 doors/ civics. they are both different.
4doors clips always fall into the car but dont break
civics/crx break sometimes. haha
