Icon2 USB Flash drive capacity

I just got an 09 Civic coupe and think it's cool that I can use play music from a USB Flash drive. I'm going to buy a new drive specifically for the car and would like to get the biggest supported (up to 16Gig). Does anyone know what the upper capacity is?

I believe it was 999 songs. Not sure of the size.

Thanks for your replies, all!

I've done some experimentation since I origianally posted this question:
I've used 1Gig thumb drive, 2Gig SD card in reader and 8Gig Insigna Pilot MP3 player successfully! But an 8Gig SD card in the same card reader and the same 8Gig SD card over USB from my Nokia 5800 Xpress Music phone would not work ("Not supported" says the display).

The manual only gives folder and file # limits and a general disclaimer that "some USB devices won't work, blah, blah". Like I said, I'd like to do is get the largest supported thumb drive that I can, 16Gig max for $$ reasons, specifically for the car. Does anyone know what the max Flash memory support is for the music player in the Civic? Or has anyone gotten a specific brand of 16Gig thumb drive to work?

Another option is to get a PCI to SD card converter and you can buy an SD card and just plug it directly into the converter and straight into the car's reader. 16/32 gig SD's are cheap. Personal choice I think the thumb drive should be close to the same price. My friend is using that setup with a 16 gig SD.

No PCI support. This is the plain Jane USB music interface in a Civic EX coupe w/o Nav system.

8gig standard usb flash drive works fine for me. 8gig sd card via usb/T-Mobile G1 does not seem to work however.

id chalk that up to the G1 not being a capable "usb device", but i couldve sworn i saw people get it working with the EX. Can anyone confirm the G1 will work as a flash device as well?

dont have a 16gb drive to test with, but i thinks its using Windows CE under the covers so i dont see why not (well...for the nav unit at least)

oh, and, FYI, hooking up a 4-port USB HUB doesnt seem to work either

I have no idea about the civic, but just in general for computers you usually hit a limit at 2GB, 4GB, and then the 64bit limit is huge.

since you tried 8GB, I think you'll hit the 999 file limit first. I'm actually quite surprised it supports above 2GB.

all the add-ons even the usb hub wont work because they require drivers.

Ive got my 40 gig external HDD drive serving up music in my 09. It's got almost 2000 songs.

It's powered through the USB connector like a flash drive. I'm gonna try a hub on there sometime soon.

Too bad the song title doesn't scroll if it exceeds the screen width. If anyone knows a way to hack that let me know.

i saw something about a 999 song limit for the PCMCIA media reader (in one of the manuals i think)? can anyone confirm?

if i cant get my G1 working as a normal flash drive im thinking about using the USB just for charging my phone and picking up a pcmcia media reader and a nice big sd flash card. but 999 is a pretty sorry limit. 32,000 for a USB drive is nice.

BTW, after it loads the songs the first time it doesn't need to load everything again unless you unplug the drive. Even if the car has been sitting or you listen to the radio it starts right up. I guess it caches the file names.

I have a 160gb external drive I had been using as my mp3 player in my 09 civic Si. But since I formatted it a week ago, it doesn't work anymore. It just says "unsupported" now. It's still fat32 format. Any ideas?

I just bought a used 2009 Pilot Touring with Nav. I have a 4GB USB flash drive full of music which I plugged in and works fine. However, I don't know how the vehicle's audio system is sorting the folders. It's not alphabetically. I think It may be by the date the folders were created on the flash drive. Is there a way change the sort?

Thank you

This thread hasn't been updated in 3 years...

Your best bet would be to post maybe in the Pilot section. You will get a better chance at a response their as most of the guys in this thread aren't as active.

I wish I could help you but I have an aftermarket HU!

You can plug in your phone for music instead. I use my iPhone in my Civic. You can flip through music using either the regular controls on the phone, steering wheel, or the regular stereo controls. It also charges your phone at the same time.
