Default What is this? JDM 1.5 VTI but with Vtec-E?!

Hi guys.

I won this car on ebay;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=290299993757

It says it was 1.5 VTI with the D15b engine. But after i won it i noticed the engine actualyl has VTEC-E on the rocker cover! I assume this is the 90bhp economy vtec and not the performance 130bhp vtec?

Please help. I have not picked the car up yet because i do not think it is a 1.5 vti. Please advise...

It looks to be the 90bhp looking at the intake pipe, because its very small like the ones that comes on the VX with the Vtec-E. But the description does say new motor(assuming thats what New MOT means), so he might be using an old intake box, and using a Vtec-E valve cover.

The only way to really tell is to look at the block code. Hard to tell from the pics. But he did mention its a D15B.

Hi mate,

THanks for confirming my thoughts that this is a VTEC-E. Just to clarify- In England (where i am from) MOT is a test which the car must pass annually. That's what that means, it doesnt mean it has had a new motor.

It does say D15B on the block. But i know the Japanese put some wierd engines in their cars. I assume this is a VX then, not a Vti?

Another thing was, don't all JDM Vti's have built in front fog lights in the bumper? This one doesn't...

Ahh okay. Now I know what MOT means.

There are like 3 different JDM D15B motors with the same block code. So you just have to be careful and know what to look out for.

And I dont think all of them have built in fogs.

Here is a link to a VTI that was recently sold, you can maybe use it as a reference. And compare...

Would i be right in assuming this is not a VTI though- Given that it has VTEC-E Cam cover and thin intake as you kindly pointed out?

I would go and have a better look but the car is along way from me. And don't want to waste the journey if it's not a VTI.

Your assumptions might possibly be right, or it might actually be a VTI but the owner isnt mentioning that he installed a new Vtec-E motor. Not only does the Intake manifold give it away, the exhaust manifold does too.

Those 2 manifolds look just like the ones that comes on the fuel efficient economy vtec-e Civic VX.

Here is a VX to compare:

MOT = Ministry of Transport test

It does NOT mean "motor".
