Default new seat and harness setup

Sorry i'm a noob. This will be my first set up and i was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I'm getting a recaro seat an autopower race roll bar and a takata harness. I noticed that there was a short harness and a long harness. Does the short one mount on the roll bar and the long one bolt to the floor? or is the short one for skinnypeople and the long one for fat people, ha? Is one safer than the other? Right now i'm thinking i'm getting the short harness and it will be mounted on the roll bar, if i'm not correct in my train of thought let me know. I'm just doing HPDE but i want it to be done right. thanks for any help you could give me.

the question is. .did you see the new willans 7point?? but anyway go with the short harness so you can save room for the subs in the back or extra wheels/tires to the track.

Done right is attached to the rollbar.
Why Takata??? There are cheaper alternatives that are just as good if not better, and you could spend the residual on other things.

what do you suggest?? the only reason i wanted the takata harness is i was trying to make it a little "classy" i guess would be the word. It's not going to be a track only car, and i would like to take it to get togethers and meets cuz i like that stuff too. I mean it's never gonna be a show car but i wanted it to look good and it seems like the takata harness is the one to have for that. I guess i don't have my heart set on it tho, you maybe could convince me otherwise. However, i was looking on inline 4 at some sparco ones and none of them are the short type to mount to the roll bar. So i guess i really do need some suggestions, thanks for the help.

Theres...
Sparco
Crow
G-Force
Schroth
Simpson
Sabelt
Willans.. just to name a few.

Im not saying Takata isn't good or bad, they just seem to be JDM bling sort of thing, and they are pretty pricey for what they are.
But thats just my opinion. You need to decide what features you want.
4 pt 5 pt 6pt heck the Willans mentioned above is a 7 pt. If your going to be using it in hpde you should opt for more safety and functionality. In the future you might want to get into club racing and having the ability to use a H&N restraint may come into play.
So the harness you choose should be able to work with what ever device you choose.
Look for the rating they carry, functionality, affordability. Look at them all... see what you like. There really is not wrong answer.

Thanks for the info....yeah i was going for a little bling i guess. Looking at some of these other ones tho, they cost almost 1/2 as much. And you're right about safety, From what i can see too most look like they go over the seat and mount to the rear seat belt bolts, is this what i'm looking for or should i look for something else? Is the "wrap style" the kind that will mount to the roll bar? and how come if that is the right way everyone pic i see has the harness mounted to the rear seat belt bolts? I know i'm not that educated yet but if someone could help out i'm just trying to do this right.

All most all harnesses go through the seat. You know.. those holes in the upper part of the seat... ?
Some sanctioning bodies have different requirements so you need to check and see what the requirements are for the body you want to run in.
Being how its only hpde most bodies even allow stock seatbelts. But since you have your safety as a higher priority and you want a harness, make sure you mount the in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Some harness manufacturers will include a CD with detailed instructions and video.
If you mount anything to the floor as an added measure i would use backing plates to make sure the bolts don't rip out of the floor in the event of an impact.
Almost all harness manufacturers offer backing plates if they dont already come with the harness.

Schroth or Willans >>> Takata any day of the week. If you're going to "show it off" , the people who know what they're looking at will appreciate your choice.

Seriously, what's wrong with takata? I'm tired of people bashing takata because they think it is jdm bling and they are better than that. Those are the people that actually do not know any better. Takata harness are widely used in Motorsports. From F1 to ALMS P1.

If he likes the look of takata, let him be. Some people like to make their race car nicer than others. Let's not punish him for it.

My issue with Takata is their "look".... they are god awful ugly.

They're also twice as expensive as the other good stuff, and cannot possibly be twice as effective. The two I've seen/handled were just sort of mediocre. When I use a Schroth or Willans, it friggin' feels good. I don't think Takata's suck, but for the money...forget it.

A quick google search
Takata: $359 + $45 (Sub belt) = $405 or $445 for 6 point.

Scroth: $325 to $600

Sparco: $319 and up
www.sparcousa.com

Willans: $329

The Takata is definitely in the expensive side. However, not twice as expensive.
I uses Scroth, Sparco, Takata and currently momo. Personally, I like Scroth hardware the best. Sparco is now made by Scorth, so they are very similar. Newer momo that I uses are also nice. The Takata I used were also nice. I do think it is personal preference.

Alright, maybe twice was a bit much, but that's also cheap for what I've seen Takatas go for. Regardless, we all have our opinions. You are correct that there's nothing "wrong" with using a Takata.

That's pretty funny how the real racer says Takata is nice as opposed to you trying to bash it lmao.

There are plenty of other "real racers" who would say the same things I did. No matter how effective they are, they won't beat the JDM bling stigma. Blame all the witless car show ****** for that one (not saying everyone who uses them is like that, or even that all car show guys are like that...just that many of them are ).

Indeed this is what i see when I go to a show. Appearances are everything...
If people see that particular brand in a car, and you see it in enough of them, people tend to think they are the best.
As we have proven here in this discussion is that there are other brands out there, and each of them have their merits.
So overall its a matter of what suits you, and your budget.
