I'm considering stripping, sanding, and polishing my SH rims. I was wondering if anyone has done this before. Pictures would be appreciated. I imagine the process would be similar to that of the base blades.
I think its doable. I'd just worry about ending up with lots of swirl marks. I've seen this process done for the purpose of painting though, not to leave as a "polished" finish. Should turn out good with the right procedure though. I think I would like to paint my OEM's white aswell. They have some road or curb rash on them around the center (which seems to be a wierd spot to have made contact with something in my opinion, Its been there since I bought the car though) so I would like to grind them smooth again and refinish for sure.
To reallly make it sparkly the sanding will have to be done right down to a wet sand like 1000 grit, and than lots of polishing after wards. Should look good though I think.
You should put this up in the asthetics/body section too perhaps. They might have good advice on finishing your wheels
The rims are steel so they will resemble polished steel if you put enough effort into it. Similar to chrome but it won't have the same reflectability.
Good luck too, post some pics when you get this up and running. You gonna take your rubber right off or work with it as is?
