How to repair subframe bolt hole threads?
So when I put my subframe on I didnt realize that, this bolt had a Nic on the thread. So when I screwed it in, it messed up the threads in the hole. I bought a tap for the hole but when you tap a hole your suppose to drill out the old threads and re-thread with the tap. My question is, Will the Old bolt still fit? Or If someone might know another way to attack this problem. Please help. Thanks
if you drill it out and re-tap the hole you will need a bigger bolt. it'll work but its gonna be a little bit of a hassel cuz its goin to be a different size bolt than the other ones. or you could use a "time-sert". i wouldnt recommend a heli-coil.
i would just go get the right tap and see if you can tap it out. you should be able to do it if it's only a few treads. timesert will be my last resort. usually if it's just a small nic on the bolt, you can use a angle grinder and grind it so that the head is rounded and it'll go in better.

a thread chaser does what it's name is. it "chases" threads. like, instead of cutting a new thread like a tap, it follows old threads and cleans them up and straightens them.

Just use a tap that's the same size as the original bolt/hole. It will work fine if it's only the first couple of threads that are damaged. Believe me, I have repaired TONS of stock bolts and holes with my metric tap/die kit. It has no doubt saved me hundreds of dollars over the years.
