Icon6 Air fuel ratio

I know that optimum AFR is at/or about 14.7. I'm wondering if an AFR Gauge can be spliced into an existing O2 Sensor or not?? I am trying to find the easyest and cheapest way to gauge AFR without having to spend $264.95 or $399.95 for a wide band AFR by PLX or even INOVATE.

Any HELP would be GREAT!!!

Thanks Alot, HAWK4295

good luck getting useable readings from a sensor that only has a 1v window.

14.7:1 at cruise is good, at WOT you want more like 13:1.

There are some cheaper DIY (solder yourself) Wideband controllers out there but IMO you get what you pay for. If you want a true AFR reading you need to spend some money on a wideband O2 sensor and a controller.

AFR Gauges that work off of Narrow Band Sensors are a joke... the gauge wont give you any real usable data. Wide Band Gauges are a lot cheaper today than ever, look into the AEM UEGO Gauge, we sell them for $218

You can not get an accurate reading from a standard O2 sensor. They are basically good for telling you whether the mixture is lean or rich and that is about it. You would need to use an AFR sensor if you are going to make a homemade one.

You could get the LC-1 + Bosch wideband, then go cheap on the gauge if you dont want to wire the wandband into one of your ECU outputs (if datalogging also).

a scan tool can read your factory o2s and you can get an idea of closed loop AF only by looking at the short and long term trims. it's completely useless for tuning WOT but could be used on something like a direct motor swap with the correct ecu where the only thing you're wondering is rather to use 40 or 42lbs of fuel pressure. you could watch which behaves closer to zero on the long term after 50 miles of various driving.

Just to add to this, a narrowband can tell you if you are richer or leaner than 14.7, but not how much, which is useless data for WOT tuning.
