Default Well I broke an alternator belt tonight

....too many 9200 rpm shifts I guess

It was funny, I had about 10 integras from the Toronto integras crew follow me home to make sure that I got there safely. The drove to block the view of any cops who would see that was driving without any lights. I turned everything off to conserve battery power while I drove home. I will get the car towed to the mechanic tomorrow, and get the ITR tranny installed at the same time

Shame on you for not being able to change your own belt.

I have never done it before, but I suppose that I could. I have to take the car to the mechanic anyway....so he may as well do it

How hard is it to change anyway? I noticed that the pulley is the most inner pulley, right next to the powersteering and AC pulley.

Sorry if I came off as harsh.. but it's very simple to do. You will need to unbolt the one motor mount underneath the chassis to side the belts off and on. Each of the belts (a/c, ps, alternator) has tightening/loosening mechanisms... each differs a bit, but it's only about a 30-45 minute job. Get a manual and dive in... you'll be proud of yourself when it's all said and done

You dont have to unbolt any mounts unless you are removing the ac belt.

i have never snapped an alternator belt before. It was probably on too tight.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the alternator belt is all the way on the inside... therefore making you remove the other 2 first.

Yes, take the first two belts off the pully, put on the altinator belt and put the other 2 belts back on. You don't have to lower the motor mount cause you are not completely removing the ac belt, only removing it from the crank pully.

One time I blew my alternator belt at the drag strip by misshifting into second instead of fourth. Thank god it was only a belt and not a drivetrain though.

Exactly...you dont need to completely remove it, just get it off of the crank pulley and leave it hanging.

My alternator belt came off the day after I got back from the ITR Expo. I just had the dealer put a new one on under warranty. Apparantly the other accessory belts were in rough shape too. My car is stock with 40k miles on it at the time.
