Default Joining the EF4dr community!

Hey boys and girls. Thought I'd drop an intro thread real quick. Name's Gerald, age 34, line in the great state of North Carolina.

I'm have been looking to get me new play toy of late, and it looks like I'll be going with one of two EF sedans. Yet to go see them, but hoping to today. I've always like the hatches, but after viewing the EF Squad thread here, I'm thinking the lil sedan will be a fun ride. Besides I like having 4 doors for passengers, (I'm a youth pastor, so taking the occasional kid somewhere is likely).

I owned a 96 coupe that was black, tinted windows, rolling on coilovers on Si wheels. I hate I sold the car, but we live and move on. If I find my pics, I'll post it. I'm looking at the sedan as the same style. Clean, low, and just fun to drive. I will NOT do a fart can exhaust again lol.

As for the EF's I'm looking at, I can post a pic of one:

This one looks good in the pic, and is completely stock minus the wheels. Dude is asking $1,600. I may go see this one today. As for these wheels, I'm not digging them anyway. The sunroof, nice, but don't absolutely need.

The other possibility is a 91, also white, 5sp, etc. No sunroof, and rolling on steelies currently. It does have tinted windows, which is something I'd do anyway, so that's cool. It's $1,200, and has the blue interior.

My worry is that I'm 6'3" and it is a small car lol. However, I told the seller of the $1200 car the same, and he told me he is 6'3" and has driven the car for the last 7yrs, so maybe that won't be a problem.

I have some questions, and hope that is ok right here:

1. I want drop of course. I don't like wheel well space. I want a decent ride. Not sure I want to go coilovers as they are a bit more expensive. I bought my last ones off of Ebay and actually liked them a lot ride wise even on stock dampers. Probably going to ride on some sort of 15" Honda alloy with 50 series tires.

2. Exhaust, I like a small rumble, nothing loud at all. What should I look at?

3. What are the 8 spoke wheels I see on some of the EF's here? They look like VW Empi wheels, except different bolt pattern lol. (I love bugs too).

My desire for the car. Clean, good looks, low, but not slammed. Going to stay white in all likely hood. Will paint bumpers to match most likely. Front lip, maybe small flush spoiler. I want it to be a fun drive in the mountains, in other words, curvy roads. Will, in the future, probably do a B16 swap or something similar just to make it more fun, not race.

If you're in NC, let me know.

Peace

Wow, 40 views and no "Hi welcome" lol. That's aight, I understand, I'm not "one of you" yet.

I drove the cheaper car yesterday. I couldn't give him $1,200 for it though. I'll wait and look at the $1600 one today possibly. The cheaper one had a cracked windshield, the tint needed to be redone, and some spots of rust on the rear around the tail lights. Interior was good, except the fact it's blue lol. I did fit just fine, though you realize just how small the car is up next to the others on the road. And the stock engine is slowwww. Very easy to u-turn in though!

One other question: It had some terrible road noise inside. He had "snow tires" on it, so is it just cuz of those tires? Would some Kumho's be that noisy?

Good luck with the search, I've never had much of a problem with road noise, so perhaps it's just his tyre choice. I've also had really tall friends who've commented on the headroom, especially for such a small car.

If you come across an EX (only available 90-91) they have the 1.6L MPFI engine which will be slightly more powerful then the DX/LX. Harder to find though!

Welcome! That white one looks good. If it's pretty clean, $1600 is reasonable.

Thanks guys. I'm going to check out the other one about 1pm today. The wheels on it are 15", and not snow tires, so we'll see how things go.

I drove the car, it is a pretty decent lil car. However, I don't like the sunroof in it...it's an aftermarket cheapo imo. And to be honest, I want an auto. I know auto are no fun, but I'm tired of changing gears man. Plus my wife could drive it if she really had to.

So check it, I hopped on Craigslist just a minute ago and look what's on there:

Details:
1990 Honda Civic, 4cyl, auto, runs and drives good. It's my daily driver. Has new timing belt, new head gasket, new battery, new tires w/ VX wheels. Dependable.

Dude is asking $1000 for it. I see it's got some paint flaws, and a fart can, but hey if I could get it for as little as $1000 I'd be happy lol.

I called him while typing this up. He's been driving the car for 4 months, and has replaced the timing belt, water pump, and head gasket. He said something about replacing the timing belt like 3 times cuz his water pump quit spinning and burnt up the belt or something like that. It's on 13" wheels with near new tires. It does have cut springs lol, but hey I will be getting dropped coils anyway, so that don't matter and it'll already have the stance I want.

Anyway, someone offered him $600 today, and he's thought about taking $700-$800, so I should be able to get it for $800 I'd assume. Heck he may be around this way tonight and if it's not too late, I'd meet him then, but it looks like it'll be tomorrow. And he's going to drive it down here near my area! And he's driving it about 30 miles back and forth so it has to be pretty dependable...maybe

I'll update tomorrow!

I forgot to ask lol. Though I did ask in my email. But even if it doesn't, that's not going to be too hard to replace.

I could swap like an auto B16 in later couldn't I?

Just spoke to him again. Yes it has a hood, but the radiator cracked or something and he's got a lude radiator in there now, and it doesn't allow the hood to shut all the way. This thing is beginning to worry me and I've not even seen it yet lol. I'll have to call the local Honda yard tomorrow and see what my swap options are. I might need to swap her quickly lol. Probably get D15 or 16 around $600 with tranny I'd bet.

that white 4 door is clean. id get it because its hard to find the dealer option sunroof. get a 4 door! there is just sex written on these cars when you put great work into them. too bad you dont live around california otherwise you'd come up on ex's for that amount of money. if you got cash buy the better trim model. LX, EX. dx is just simple.... but i got one so im not complaining. more work for me

good hint on cars. wait for the right car. with time you'll find a cheap relaible car.

I doubt it's one of the dealer fitted ones if it looks like crap.

Welcome In my opinion, wait until you find a nice LX or EX with minimal rust, dings and dents. Also try to find one that hasn't been modified, you don't want someones project. Good luck on the search and keep your eyes on Craigslist, local news papers and local forums.

1. Check out Omni Power coilovers.

2. Have one custom made to your liking.

3. Can you post a picture of the wheels?

Thanks for answering the questions. Here's the kind of wheels I was asking about:

No, it wasn't a dealer option sunroof...I would not believe so.

I didn't meet up with the dude today. Sposed to call me around 4pm tomorrow. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks for all the tips guys!

Dude with the auto one didn't call today, and I'm tired of messing with him about it. Found another one in town today. Asking price $1500, but it does have a slightly crack windshield, dent drivers fender, and 230,000 miles. However, it is an LX, nice clean tan interior...much better than the blue all have had that I've seen so far, power windows, and is a 5 speed.

Will go by and talk to the dude tomorrow.

Yeah, gonna just be patient and keep my eyes out for the right one. I'm spending some money today buying me a used riding mower lol, so that'll put the car off for a little bit anyway. But I'm going to continue to look!
