6X9 in a eg hatch
Anyone have any good ideas on how to get 6X9's into my hatch? They didn't come standard, but the wires are there, I'm trying to figure out how to mount them. Any ideas anyone?
The 92-95 Civic used standard 6.5" speakers front and rear, if your "EG" did not come with rear speakers it will have wiring, [as you say] but no speaker mounting plates and not grill, just dummy plates to cover the openings.
Why not just get the stock brackets/grills from a bone yard and install standard 6.5" speakers, a lot less work and a better chance of having them sound good.
With that said, why not spent the time, money and effort on better front speakers, there really is no need for rear speakers for anything but "rear fill" or if you are going to use the rear locations for bass, to save space, instead of a sub in a box. 94

I've got 5 1/4 in the front, and I would like the bass in the back. The 6X9's that I looked at have a great mid to bass line that doesn't wobble too much, plus I like 6X9's in general. The coupes and sedans I've seen have a mounting point on the rear by the rear window that the hatch does not have. I'm trying to get them mounted underneath the rear panels by the rear seats.
You can make 6.5' work but it will be easier to just stick with 5.25. I would personally go with kick pannels but if cost is a factor stick with the stock locations. Your deck will not put out enough power to make the 6x9's sound good, I do not think they will sound good regardless but that is my opinion, and if your powering the 6x9's with an amp then you might as well be powering a sub with that amp.

I'm thinking of running 2 amps, one for the 6x9's and one for the subs I'm going to get, but I won't end up putting them in until next month at the earliest. I'm thinking of getting Pioneer 6x9's but the sony xplodes sounded alright (I'm not throwing in big $$$ into my hatch for sound). Just want good sound without too much into it. Anyone got any suggestions on brands for 6 1/2's (in case I break done and say F*** It), 6X9's, and subs?
Like I said earlier, and 98civdx just said, if you are installing a sub there is absolutely no reason for 6x9's. You could effectively argue that 6x9's would be a good choice if you were not going to install a sub but seeing as how you are you don't have a solid argument. Don't waste the money on 6x9's, run 5.25 or 6.5 all around. Power the fronts and sub with an amp. If you aren't interested in "throwing big $$" into your system then don't waste money on 6x9's, that would be like throwing money away.
As I said, stock speakers in your car would be standard 6.5", [not to be confused with over-sized 6.5" speakers].
If your adding a sub then, as mentioned, forget about rear speakers altogether, they are not needed, if you want rear speakers you should look for mid-range/mid-bass drivers, any kind of highs, [tweeters] behind you will make staging and proper imaging pretty much imposible.
If you want something that sounds good without spending too much get yourself 2 sets of Eclipse SP6510... http://www.eclipse-web.com/us/point/sp6910_6510.html and if it has to be 6x9s, get a set of Eclipse SP6910, [if you can find a set of the older SP6900 get them] the SP6510 will fit the stock door locations with a 1/4" spacer, [gasket] or by cutting a hole in the back of the stock plastic speaker housing big enough for the speaker magnet to fit through.
For the rear you will either need to get the stock housings... http://hondamarketplace.com/showthread.php?t=2368892
Here is what the whole set looks like... http://hondaswap.com/car-audio-secur...rackets-68471/ or make mounting plates out of MDF, they will need to be MDF if you go with 6x9s.
Mounting the speakers to the plastic trim panel is a waste of time and money, plastic trim paneling makes a lousy speaker baffle and no rear speakers would be better.
A 4x75W RMS into 4 ohms amp will drive the 4 speakers, to prevent "left/right bias" and bring the stage forward and up wire the rear speakers is series and connect them to the bridged rear channels of the amp, a JL Audio 300/4 works very well as the x-over for the rear speakers can be set for LP, [low-pass] and crossed over at up to 5000Hz, making for great mono rear fill.
Remove or disable any tweeters on the rear speakers.
If you still think you need a sub, it can always be added later along with a mono block sub amp.
The above system, [even without a sub] will sound great, good SQ with very good bass extension.
You may decide you can live without a sub as the Eclipse Point Source speakers make great bass. 94
