Default Please help me diagnose my starter problem

A while back I was driving my car into town. I stopped for a while, turned off the engine and later on tried to restart the car. Everything came on but the motor did not crank.

I figured that it was the starter and later on when my friends mecanic dad came over, he pulled out a wire from the starter, cleaned it or something, plugged it in and then the car restarted..

What could he have done? What is the theory behind it?

Probably what 01ITR#950 said.

Bad connection -> starter gear won't engage to the flywheel -> engine won't crank

I wonder, how does that happen?
Maybe I ran over too many bumps on the way to my destination?

Ive been noticing lately that sometimes it takes longer for my car to turn on.
I can sit there w/ the key trying to turn it on for a few secs, then it turns on.

You think it could be the same problem??

sometimes starters just stick. mine did it for about a year until it finally broke. quiet often i would have to bang on it a few times to get it to start. it might have broke from a year of hitting it though.

If you here a click and nothing happens then your starter may not be the problem.

How many miles do you have on the vehicle? Does this only happen when the vehicle is hot or has been running for a while before restarting it?

It could be a faulty ICU or ignitor coil. But if your engine has less than 60k miles on it, it might be something else.

My car has like 53K miles on it and its a 95 GSR
