k20a3 block vs k20z3 block?? HELP
i got an ep3 with stock k20a3 block and head i found a k20z3block with an a3 head on it will i get nething out of it will it be faster than the a3 everything

I got an ep3 with stock k20a3 block and head. I found a k20z3block. With an a3 head on it(on the z3block), will i get anything out of it or will it be faster than the a3 with anything?(bolt ons)...

why does this thread make no sense ... lol ... do you guys understand whats different between the two motors, their is big distinctions that make it obvious you shouldnt mix if you have a z3 long block, you guys should understand that the a3 stock internals cant handle being mixed and matched with the a2,z1,z3, or type r parts so easily, YES they can be put together because their are all k series parts but for them to work PROPERLY and effectively is another story ... the z3 is found in the new Si and run pretty much the same as the z1 or a2 dc5 type s motors power wise ... they may make more horses then the z3 but the z3 has a lsd in the tranny stock ... now when we look at the a3 it doesnt have the same tranny (having 5 gears only), lower rev limit, lower compression, different cam design, different in so many ways (for a reason) that internals shouldnt be placed under the same situational stress as the z1,z3,a2 and type r WITHOUT major modifications ... im not saying that the a3 is a bad motor (no offense to k20a3 owners, ive seen plenty of k20a3 motors put out good numbers and times) but if you do some research here in the forums you will find reasons why you shouldnt even consider MIXING the z3 and a3 in anyway unless your planning a lot more to that build ...
if anything im rambling on so look on this thread at the bottom you may find some information helping with your decision ... there are probably other helpful threads out there too ...
for the main question on this page ... z3 short block with a3 head ... i dont think you will actually gain anything from it ... it may not be safe at all but you could try to ask for more power out of your a3 head if you change its internals, but stock you wont be happy with the outcome ... simply because the point of the k series motor is the new i-vtec design, it helps create lower end torque and a higher end power band as well without loosing out on gas efficiency ... but in the case of the a3 head their is no higher end power band because during vtec cross-over the exhaust side i believe doesnt actually increase in lobe (size and durations) like the other motors ... instead it concentrates more on the torque and mpgs ... of course its the entire motor that makes the car move its just that if all sections of the motor are not on the same page your not going to get what your expecting ... im sorry

I paid 20 bucks for a z3 complete short block. Gonna combine it with a 50$ a3 head. Currently have a3 on 9lbs in the ep3. Gonna run 15 to 18 lbs on the Frankenstein.
