my Alpine HU doesnt work anymore...
Hey,
I need some help, i drive a 96gsr, and i just installed an ALPINE CDA - 7894 a few weeks ago and everything was fine, last week I installed an ALPINE MRD-M300 MONO AMP and a 12" ALPINE TYPE R SWR-1241D 4ohm sub. The amp is connected directly to the battery with a 10guage wire.
The sub is hooked up to run at 2ohms, everything was working fine until today. I was showing a friend my HU and pushing the sub, increasing the volume etc, until the HU just died out. I checked all the fuses and everything checked out fine.
I Hooked up another alpine 7894 deck, and that wouldnt work either. I noticed that the CLOCK on my car wouldnt turn on either, Doesnt the clock run on constant power? so i rechecked all fuses ie: interior light, etc. and like i said, everything checked out okay. The fuse attaced to the wiring on the back of my HU was fine too. is there another fuse i can check on the car that i dont know about?
or
did i burn out my cable in the dash? im no audio expert, im just trying to figure out what went wrong and some solutions.
any help/suggestions would be great,
Thanks in advanced

first of all you need a minimum of 8 gauge to run that amp, did you check your fuses under the hood? try that and if no result test the wires at the deck. good luck.

hm. i guess i'll have to change it to 8gauge then. i did check the fuses under the hood, and the wiring on the deck, i crimpped all the deck wires to a harness, and none of the wires are loose. thanks though...but what would also explain my dash clock not working too?
if you're sure you didnt blow any fuses you probably burnt some wiring somewhere along the line or that'd be my guess
did you notice a weird smell or any smoke when it quit?
10 awg is definately on the small side for your amp. also alpine recommends that you run a wire direct from the battery for the 60x4 headunits (like the 7894) did you do that? apparently it draws more power than the stock harness can supply. i think you may have just found out why they recommend that

Check the fuse under the MAIN fusebox under the hood. The clock and the deck are on the same circuit.
As for the deck itself, are you running the constant power wire through the existing harness or are you running it directly to the battery or fusebox? The CDA7894's internal amp has the capability of drawing gobs of current.

I havent directly connected the Headunit up to the battery yet, it's been running on the harness the past few weeks...
i'm lookin at the main fuse box cover right now; ecu, backup, cooling fan, cooling fan relay, heater motor relay, option, heater motor, rr defroster, IG, light, bettery, stop, horn, hazard are the only fuses i see. I havent found the fuse for the clock...under the hood nor under the steering wheel... i thought there wouldnt be a fuse because it was constant power for the clock???
could you tell me which fuse to look for specifically??
thanks for all the advice guys!
10 guage wire is awfully small for the amp... also did you check the radio, clock and back up fuses? theres fuses both under the hood by the battery and inside the car... most likely you blew one of those fuses... I hope you didn't fry the wires or anything....

i would definitely check the fuses. just because they appear to be still good doesnt mean that they are still good. so change the ones you need to change and hopefully that's it. or your problem could lay on a faulty ground. so check that out.
the fuse your looking for is a 7.5 amp fuse called "back up" under the hood the fuse color is blue also the amp gauge may be on the small side depending on your ohm load on the susb anyway the head unit you have needs 12 volts NOT from the wiring harness in the car you need to get it from under the dash and use the fuse supplied with the head just run that wire again with the fuse to your wire harness under your dash the wire is color is white and is pretty thick try that you should be back in business

hey your suggestion worked
it was the 'backup fuse' i thought it was just an extra fuse so i never thought of checking that one. it was brown btw. but thanks for the help everybody, i appreciate it. i will be changing the 10gauge wire to 8gauge tomorrow and directly powering the HU through the battery. thanks again
