I got a 2000 civic Si with a type R motor swap on it that was doing me fine for about 2 years. I park the car ever winter, and this winter, it was parked for about two months, and then when I tried to start it, it seemed like the timing belt was stuck? The car will roll, but something in the motor is keeping the timing belt from turning.

I think the crank is trying to turn, but there is something holding it back from cranking. (yes, I did hook up the battery charger right).

I took it on the road and tried to jump start it, but every time I let go of the clutch, the wheels locked (no rotation). I did it a couple times, and I gave up. If the car is in neutral, it will roll, but wont start.

I dont think its the transmission, but I have no idea what could have happened. I dont know if something might have froze during the winter, but I would have thought that jump starting it would have gotten it to unlock (and its like 60degrees outside).

Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Hmmm not likely if it ran fine before getting parked.
Have you checked the pulleys to make sure nothing is siezed? check the timing belt tensioners, water pump etc...

Before the winter storage had the engine overheated or had it been run while low on oil?

 

take the plugs out and turn it over... see if it spins and shoots stuff out... if it still dont spin, idk, if it DOES spin easily, put the plugs back in and fire it up.

could be valve guides/seals leaking... sat forever, oil puddled in cyl, and boom, hydrolocked

 

maybe there's an animal that got inside while it was stored

 

THe car was had never over heated, and has oil in it. I checked to se if there was any animals in there and nothing. I will try the spark plug idea, but idk how to find out which one of the timing pulleys is seized (if it is one of the pulleys).

When my friend try's to turn the key, I can see the timing belt try to spin, but nothing turns and it looks like the crank is just jerking the belt a little.

I have no idea what could be the problem??????!!!!

 

Did you take the plugs out? Might not be the problem but couldn't hurt to try it.

I hydro locked a truck once and your symptoms sound identical to the trucks after i drove through a huge mudhole.

 

Draining and inspecting the motor oil also may be worthwhile just to check whether the oil is contaminated with water or coolant.

 

hmm, thats an interesting problem you have there. other then whats already been said i don't really know what to suggest. once you do get it figured out though i'll be curious to hear what the issue was.

 

I had a similar problem alternator was seized try to take the belt off and see if it starts.

 

take plugs out and squirt wd40 let sit for 1 hr then try to start again. are you sure nothing broke inside

this is an excellent and easy quick idea... your alternator could very well haev seized from non use and would definetely create a no crank seize type condition....

 

i also think you should pull the plugs and see if it spins,just sitting for a couple months should'nt lock anything up but you never know...good luck,hope it's an easy fix!

 

hmmmmmmmm i'd start by taking a wrench to the crank shaft pulley and trying to rotate the motor by hand. how cold did it get where the car was parked? is the coolant level topped off? i'm hoping this isn't your case, but if you had more water than antifreeze in your engine the water could've frozen, cracked something and BOOM hydrolock... either way it sounds like there's liqued in one of the cylinders... good luck!
