I feel you about the S2k. I sold my AP2 and picked up a TSX, and I love it.

Jdm-Ray, PM me when you want to get rid of the BMW. I will buy it from you if the miles are right.

I've never heard of a grocery-getter m3
I really enjoyed the s2k but I downgraded because I need a daily driver with more seats and more comfort. I had 2 s2k's in 3 yrs. I'll have another one someday I'm sure of that

I said lol @ "CONCEPT" of "downgrading" from Honda to BMW.

I didn't say a used 3 series is necessarily better than an S2000. It's the idea that a BMW suddenly became a downgrade from an economy car maker.

And the cheapest BMW is still a **** ton more of a driver's car than most Hondas. There's a feeling you get driving one you don't feel in a Honda, it's got everything you need, well balanced, purposeful, etc.

And it doesn't break your wallet if you keep taking care of it and keep in mind the warranty. My MINI has 3/36 free maintenance and 4/50 warranty. You can always extend a warranty. I can tell you right now i'd rather face a lot of bitchy problems and have the fun of the MINI than have trouble free blandness from say, a Fit, Accord, Civic, etc. Si is a different story. You need to drive these things to experience it, it's fun.

That's why you buy CPO and get the 100k mi warranty to begin with.

I just went in and got a complete rear brake job for free; just like I will with every service for the next two years/17k miles (free service stops at 50k). After that all non-wear items (including electrical) are covered until 2012/100k mi.

People assume it's terribly expensive to own a BMW, but if you go CPO it really isn't.

Also, it would be "'break' my wallet," unless you were trying to slow the wallet down.

If I still have the car? Replace it with a low mileage used or remanufactured transmission and have an independent BMW mechanic do the work.

What do you do if the transmission on a honda breaks?

You buy a new one for like 5 dollars, because it's cheaper and we can get them all day.

I would have no problem finding a trans for my car, and while it would be more expensive (after all, it's a much more complicated transmission) it's still not going to completely break the bank. Besides, I have a ZF auto, not a SMG (which I'm guessing previously mentioned M3 that kept going through trannys had); it's an extremely robust and reliable transmission used in tons of different cars.

bmw== piece of ****, and have the worst resale value

u can find 06 m5 now for 40k. how much was that **** new?

if u want dependable luxury car, cant go wrong with the lexus

i have friends who work at dealerships as mechanics, one works at lexus, and the other at bmw, so i know whats dependable or not, from what they have been tellin me, i go visit my friend at lexus, hes not busy at all no cars to work on since lexus doesnt brake, i go there and hang out, my other friend at bmw when i go in there hes super busy, has no time to talk, has too much work to do on these piece of **** bmw's, he himself drives a honda, and says hed never buy a bmw, just from what hes experienced as a bmw mechanic. but hey hes happy bmw's brake down , keeps him employed and working, since theres always work on bmw's to do

Lexus' are great cars, and more reliable than BMW, but they are also very bland and uninspiring, boring to drive, and aside from the ISF don't have anything as sporty as a 3-seires. If I wanted dependiblility and comfort I would have bought a Lexus, but I wanted something fast and fun to drive that is well-built and has a great warranty. All high-end German cars depreciate badly (look at used AMG prices, or even worse, Audi S-cars). It's a good thing I buy my cars to drive them and not to sell them.

BMW does not have the 'worst' resale value, by far, though. In fact, the new X5 and 1-series have the highest resale values in their class. Is honda the best in terms of resale? Yes. Is BMW the worst? Not even close. Hell, may car still books for $4k more than I bought it for, having lost less than $10k since it was new (11/06 build date), which is pretty damn good for a $40k+ car.

It's also nice to know that you base your "facts" on secondhand information from dealership techs. I'm sure that's better than having owned/driven both a Honda and BMW. Also, did you think that maybe more BMWs come in for service because it's FREE for the first 50K? I'm willing to bet you will spend more money maintaining a Lexus for 4 years than you will a BMW. A Lexus may be reliable, but that doesn't mean it's cheap to fix (ask my parents, who just had to replace the transmission in their RX300).
