Given the right offset wheel, yes. You'll likely have to trim the mounting tab on the rear bumper.
I've seen 235/40/17s used with good results on 17x8 +48mm wheels. Require trimming of that rear tab.
I run 225/50/15 race tires on my track car on 15x7 and 15x8 +40mm wheels without any rubbing at all, but the rear fenders required rolling and trimming of that mounting tab. The 225 race tires I use run REALLY wide. Section width is just over 10" on an 8" wide wheel!

Im running 225/45/16 on stock suspension and no major rubbing. The only rubbing i have had it due to my stock suspension being 160k old and when I bottom out(doesnt happen regularly) itll slightly rub my fender liner
