Just bought an Accord 07
After my 16 year old Civic died at 207k miles, I had no choice and bought a 07 Honda LX, It has 24k miles but is in very good shape. I had a couple of questions.
1. I was so used to following a regular schedule of doina an oil change every 6k miles and after 100k every 3k miles. Every 30k doing all the other services. On the Accord the computer decides the oil change intervals and what needs to be changed. Do you guys follow any pre set maintenance plan or go by the computer instructions.
2. The Dealer gave me only one key, I got a very good deal and so I didnt want to make a big issue. I would like to make another key and maybe another basic key just to open the door. Do you know how expensive it is to make the remote key and a basic key.
Thanks
Dan

1. i Always do the 3k or 3 months schedule.
2. i believe your accord has a chip in the key, so you would need to go to honda and get one. if you have a key but theres no chip in it, its only good for the doors, trunk, glovebox only. the car wont start with that key.
anyways how much did you get for it since it was a "deal"

Paid $16k OTD. Included all Taxes Tag Title. This was at a Honda Dealership.
Even though the economy is down, I found that the dealers were not going down much.

I picked up my 07 EX-L V6 4Dr a month ago for $13,500 but I had a trade in so we really only paid $10,000. It had 55,000 miles, but we got it an Enterprise where my bro works, so we got a discount. Now I personally think that was a steal!!!!
You should have gotton two keys/ remotes with the car as that is what would have originally come with it.
YOu could buy an uncut one for your model and year of car and have it programed and cut at Honda.
I had a chip embeded key made at the local Honda dealer and he needed my key (the one I had on my key ring) and the VIN number of the car and he cut it. It was $25 plus tax for the key and the cutting of it.
I had to go back in to the dealer 2 mins later to get it recut do to it not working, but that is life sometimes. so try the key out first before you leave the dealer.
The remote I programed myself in less then 2 mins on a Sat night.
But I don't know the procedure for the 03-07 Gen. I only know how to do it on the 98-02 (mine is a 2001) but it should be somewhat the same.
You got a good deal on yours, I like the 2006-2007 versions of the 7th gen (03-07) as the LED tail lights and refined back end make this a better looking car then the 03-05 which in my mind was too rounded in the rear.
Yes Honda Accords are not really marked down in a Honda Accord (perhaps because the cars are good in the used/ resale market??) I wanted a 6th gen (98-02) because I like the style of the car and did not like the 7th gen much (except for 06-07) and could not afford a 8th gen yet and even places like Carmax and Honda dealers wanted over $10000 for most of their 6th Gen accords (save the orphan 01 VP I saw) but I found a decent speciman on a Ford dealer's lot for about $7000 when taxes and tags are factored in.
Best of luck with your new car

good luck with the new car.
The salesman told me that the car came with only one key. The other may have been lost or someone forgot to give/take it. The car was not certified as it cost additional to certify. I would assume they just get an extended warranty to make it certified.

Hello
If you got it at a Honda Dealer, it should still be under warranty (3 year- 36,000 miles) while this probably does not include keys and such(except maybe a defective remote) it may help you to get a second set of keys for free or at a discount because you were supposed to get at least 2 remote/ key combos and a valet key.
Regardless if the car was a certified car or not, it still is under the original warranty.
I would simply go back and ask them for a second key. If the salesman you bought the car from can not give you a second key, then go higher up and ask for the key. Do this in a calm manner and you should get your key. I have found Honda dealership folks to be reasonable as long as the customer is. (Don't go in there waving your hands and yelling)
As for the programing of the remote and the programing and cutting the key. You don't need to make an appointment to have the service folks do that. You simply take your info (including VIN number) and current key to the parts counter. they plug your VIN number into their computer, take your current key and stick it into a slot and cut you a new key.
As for the remote, you can simply program that yourself. It should be the same as it was for the 98-02 series. However you must program all remotes at the same time or else the new remote will work and the old one will not. This process is much easier then on older GM vehicles where you had to get out the tech one or two to do it
Good luck

Thanks L,
I am going to the dealer this Friday, I spoke with the Salesman and lets see what they can do.
I had another question. Is it a good decision to put mud guards and a door edger. OEM or after market.

On my 2001, the former owner bought and had the dealer install a set of them and they really look nice on the car. I don't know what the flaps would look like on the 03-07 models but I am sure it would look nice on the 2006-07 because of the restlyed rear end of the car.
As for the second thing you were asking about, I don't know what that is. Is it the plastic bar shaped thing under the doors?
I am sure Honda will help you out if you are calm and reasonable in your request
Good luck

I think it's good to put a door edger, aftermarket has more choices, and of course it's cheaper; OEM, I think, is more reliable. it's depends on your requirement.
Update:
Another problem cropped up. I had decided on OTD price so it included TTT. I got a letter in the mail that I need to pay $93 to collect the tag. This was the difference in the tag/tax. When I went to the dealership. I told the Title dept, Sales advisor and the Sales Mgr that I was not going to pay it as TTT was included in the Final negotiated price. I ended up not collecting the tag.
I went home and wrote a nice straightforward letter to the General Sales Manager as to why I should not be paying the $93 and also the problem of me just having one key, on a car that has warranty. I also concluded by writing "... and what looked like a pleasant experience of buying a car is ending up in us writing letters for ..."
The GSM called my home personally and apologized for the trouble and the trouble of us writing a letter. He said I could come anytime and collect the tag and a spare key. It was with him in his office.
This is good service.
PS. I was not sure if I would get a spare key, so prior to the GSM notifiying me. I managed to order two Remote keys for $20 each. The store is Midwest Keyless, 866 604 9202. I should be getting them soon and will try to return them. They look refurbished with new chips. I would have to get it programmed at the dealer or locksmith.
I also found out that Walmart sells and programs Honda keys. They charge $50 for everything, however this is a regular key and not the one with the remotes. They will not program outside keys.
Thanks for all your advice.

Hello,
Glad it all worked out for the best.
I would keep the spare keys as it is always nice to have backups
You simply need the key cut at the dealer, you don't really need them to program the remote part as you can do it your self
Good luck
