Default has anyone done a coolant drain bolt mod?

Like the title says, I am looking for suggestions on possibly modding the drain bolt for coolant on the back of the engine block. I hate it when I had done something to the coolant system or engine, and need to drain the block, only to have the coolant spill all over the block and driveway when I remove the bolt. Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks for any answers.

I just pull the lower rad hose. But there really is no way to do this w/o making a mess unfortunately. or atleast none that I know of.
