I'm looking for info on this. Is Vtec-e is found on all 92-95 Civic VX's or just JDM and Eur?
What VIN code denotes Vtec-e? Thanks

 

All '92 - '95 USDM VXs are Vtec-e. 8th digit of the VIN should read either a 6 or 7 if its a VX, VIN should also start xxxEH2.

 

Different markets used different trim lines.

Vtec-e was produced in the JDM and US market. I know on gas-savers.org I saw someone who had a Euro vtec-e model too. Some of the d15 in japan were the multi-stage vtec motors, and that one won't work the same as vtec-e.

If you're looking for one with lean-burn too, then you have to look a little harder. Most in the US had it other than the CA model, and I think most JDM models had it, I have no idea for the euro models though.

 

I recently read an interesting article about swapping a Vtec-e engine into a CRX with HF transmission. This guy says he is getting 60 mpg+

If you check out gas-savers.org there are actually a handful of people who have swapped the vtec-e motor into a few different Hondas that didn't originally come with it.

My friend swapped one into his del sol and was getting around 43 MPG.

The swap isn't too difficult really. The hard part is getting the 5-wire o2 sensor wired correctly and if you are swapping it into an 88-91 civic, getting the transmission of the VX to mount and work correctly. Some people have done the swap and used other transmissions with it, to make the swap that mus easier, but generally their MPG numbers suffer since the VX ECU seems to know you aren't traveling at the correct RPM and won't let the motor go into lean-burn enough to get stellar MPG.
