Ok, so I just got this z6 put in an 89 civic lx, and when I got it running it was throwing codes for the cyp, and ckp sensors. I took it for a spin and when I nail the throttle it was like it hit a rev limiter or something, and it would just bog like crazy. So I took it home and I redid all the distributor wires (7 wires) just to make sure that my wiring wasnt bad. I got that all finished and now it is not throwing any codes, but I took it out again, and it still has the same issues. I'm thinking that my distributor is bad, because it never did this before with the old motor, so it isn't anything like a clogged cat, or fuel filter, unless something just went bad all of a sudden. Has anyone had this problem before???? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David
Need a little more info. Did you convert to OBD1, what ECU are you using, what motor was in the car before the swap, did you reset the ECU after the codes, what was rewired during the swap?

Ok, the car is a 89 civic lx, that had a d15b2 (stock motor), and I swapped a d16z6 in it with the stock manual tranny if that matters. I converted it over to obd1, with a conversion harness, and I guess some of the dizzy wires werent right, so I clipped them and ran the 7 wires from the distributor straight to the p28. Now it isn't throwing any codes, but it is still bogging. Is it possible that an o2 sensor is wired wrong and still doesn't throw any codes??

Oh and yes after I did the wiring, i reset the ecu and it isn't throwing any codes. Its like when I'm giving it 1/2 to 3/4 , pulls pretty good, but when its wot it just bogs like a bitch. Any help would be appreciated

I would start with trying to make sure your distributor timing is set correctly.
Since you shorted something electrically, proceed to test the dsitributor with a know good one.

I havent checked my spark plugs. Could spark plugs do that? I used some old spark plugs, and just cleaned them, so Its possible that the spark plugs are messed up inside. I did put new wires on though. I dont understand how spark plugs would make it bog at WOT. Is it possible that something in the dizzy is messed up even though it isn't throwing a code anymore? I am going to try the plugs when I get home. It would be really awesome if its something easy like that.
Oh, and I forgot to tell you guys. The motor has low compression wiseco pistons in it. I dont know if they need more fuel if that could be the problem. I am just getting ready to put my turbo kit on and stuff, but I just wanted to break in the motor before I boost it.

how would I check to see if my distributor is set right? just make sure that the cap and stuff is good. I have the dizzy right in the middle. not advanced or retarded. I dont want to spend 75 bucks on a z6 dizzy to find out that it was the plugs, so I want to try some easy stuff first.

Yea, it is the right dizzy. The thing about it is, I bought the head intake manifold and dizzy all together, and I noticed after I put the head on my block and stuff that when I took off the dizzy cap, there was a bolt laying at the bottom, so my distributor might need to be replaced. Does anyone know if sparkplugs can make it bog like that??

I'm going to try the plugs today, and double check my timing, I'll let you guys know what happens.
Oh, and on the d16a6 crank pulley, there is only one line instead of three, so I lined up the head at tdc, and then lined up the crank pulley line with the pointer on the timing belt cover. Would that make a difference with it having a z6 head on it?? I wouldn't think so.

Ok, I changed the plugs, and it is a little better, but it still boggs. I guess I'm going to get a dizzy soon and see it that fixes it.

Alright, sorry it took a while. So I replaced the whole distributor with a different one, which was in good condition, and I also replaced the rotor button, and still have the same problem. IDK whats wrong
So you replaced the distributor? Did you then check/set your timing afterwards both at the distributor and the cam gear?

I have checked my timing and its right on. I talked to the guy that is going to tune it for me and he said it probably just needs to be tuned. I am going to check the tps though.
my crx did the same thing a few months back. my air/fuel gauge would lean out then the car would bogg out. i changed my distributor and the problem was fixed. it started doing it again this week really bad and changed my distributor again but nothing worked. changed spark plug and spark plug cables and nothing. maybe main fuel relay ? its only does it after i run my car for about 20 mins. im lost and frustrated........
I would say TPS and or a bad o2 sensor. Also check your the coolant temprature sensore on the side of the engine under the distributor. One of them was not plugged all the way in on my crx and it would bog when at full throtle....sooo check. Also try reseting the ecu
