Default Getting a smoother ride/common suspension issues

My 89 crx I just bought doesn't have a horrible ride but could be better. What are some things I can do to give it a better ride? And what are some things to check on the suspension that may need to be replaced since its a 20 year old car?

The steering has no play, but it seems to "bounce around" a lot while driving.

Check rear trailing arm bushing. They could be tore up and swapping those out with good bushing makes a big difference.

No clue. I just bought the car. All I know is it is lowered. What makes you think they are blown?

well since you said that you bounce around a lot while driving, blown shocks could be an option. are you like HELLA BOUNCING (*** off the seat/head on the ceiling) when you go over little humps and rough surfaces? if thats the case and you feel like the shocks arent absorbing any force, then its most likely ur shocks. if not, then since you stated its lowered, its probably the effect of your car being lowered.

jack the car up and check real quick on what kind of suspension you are running. if its riding on lowering springs and oem shocks (or tokico blues/kyb gr2's), then ur probably gonna wanna get some new shocks. how much of a drop do you have anyways?

Ride quality is what you sacrifice with a lowered car.

Oh I am not bouncing like that. It just feels like if you drive a heavy car with stiff suspension. It doesn't seem like the suspension is absorbing much. I will look under it tonight. If I need new shocks, what should I get? I don't wanna spend a whole lot of money but would like to do autocross since its such a small light car. I heard koni yellows are good but.....they are also like 600$. What do people think about the cheap ebay coilovers?

Another thing. How do I check my rack end bushing or whatever it is for the steering. After reading about steering problems here at HT a bit it seems like if you have any steering issues, thats what you should replace first. MY roommate said an alignment could give it a rougher ride too. Is this true?

Most ebay coils are garbage. The spring rates in any one set can be way off from one another....you get what you pay for with suspension.

I run S2 sleeves and Tokico Illumina dampers and Im happy with them, its a nice compromise between auto-x days and street duty.

An alignment making it rougher? LOL not. If anything it would help.

How much does that run? 850?

No, I think you misunderstood, or I am an idiot (pick one its multiple choice). He is saying if the alignment is off it will make it a lot rougher.

EDIT: just looked around a little, What about KYB GR-2 or KYB AGX shocks? Or Tokico HP?

In my opinion all those dampers are junk, if you are going to be on a track at all.
They are all basically just stock replacements.

Ground controls Koni Yellows, replace rear trailing arm bushings with OEM ones, new upper and lower balljoints, inner and outer tie rods OEM of course, all new lower control arm bushings front and rear. Rebuild your steering rack and you're all set. Good Luck

if you wanna do autocross and daily it, get some tokico illuminas and some good quality coilovers like ground control or skunk2 maybe? dont cheap out and get ebay

illuminas have adjustable dampening and coilover sleeves have the adjustable height.

Well I did a rear brake job tonight. I looked at the bars tonight that are in the rear wheel wells. No clue what they are, I am new to suspension. The bushings are HORRIBLE! I know that much. Where is the cheapest place to get OEM replacements?
