It's time I finally said "Thank You"
I know they will never read this nor will they even care, but I must formally thank the engineers at Honda. Here's why:
After about a week of being idle, the ol' girl finally got to stretch her legs this evening. I did not travel my normal route that I usually take for my weekend spirited drive. Instead of heading directly to the sticks, I took a much lengthier route. 15 minutes into the drive, it happens......
Mind you, it is about 9:45 pm and rather dark. I am traveling down a road where the sides have banks, so there is no room to pull off. At about 40mph, I was so close to downshifting and punching it (I mean 1/2 second from really getting on it). For some reason, I hesitated and I sure am glad I did. From the top of the hill (along side of the road), a big motherfudgin' deer jumps into the road. I saw it start the jump and travel in the air from the side of the road, and bam, I slam on the brakes. (No, I didn't hit the poor creature).
The car went from 40 to 0 before I had time to really realize what was going on. Goddamn glued to road I tell you. Let me say that the deer was extremely lucky tonight that the good ol' folks at Honda made such a fine peice of machinery. I must have missed that deer by 2" inches and I am not exagerating on how close I was. For a split second, I was just waiting for the thud, because I lost site of about 3/4 of its legs. The ticks probably got to hop off and ride on the emblem for a little while.
Well, Bambi continued across the road and I took off pretty quickly as they usually travel in herds. I didn't want one to run into the side of the car after narrowly missing the first.
So, to bring this long **** story to an end, I must say "Thank you Honda." Everybody raves about the technology and power of the engine as well as the handling of the car, which I agree with, but one thing is usually overlooked. The braking ability. The combination of the REO10s and the larger disk brakes are an incredible combination for an automobile that comes from the factory like this. This one important detail saved a life of an animal and it saved me money and the headache of having the car repaired. THANK YOU HONDA!
Done.

Had two near misses myself, with deer.
Never even saw one of them till my passenger asked me if I saw it.
@100 neither of us would have been pretty afterwards (in my 87 CRX Si).
agreed, honda did a wonderful job. I thought the ITR had awesome brakes stock...get a set of good brake pads and fluid and see how you like it...i just put in Panther plus pads today (overkill for street, but i love overkill) and i feel like i could stop fade free for days. It incredible the BITE these punks give. glad to see the R still running deer carcass free.

hope it'll never happen...
but I think Toyota makes better brakes for their vehicle..
(though I never really own a Toyota, my dad have some)..
ITR comes with a really good brakes.. but Honda in general does not..
I remember my 1991 Civic needs an Accord Brakes to be able to stop properly..
(the car has been modified)..
Honda have better Gears/Synchro I think.. but Brakes? Toyota rules..
try Celica's brakes..

I don't design brakes though.
Awesome, I have had several experiances that would have been much worse if not for the incredible brakes on the ITR.
Chris, who often takes a longer route than needed to go places, twsty roads 0wn j00!

Damn, I must have been in the typing mood last night. Sorry for the long **** story.
I am sooo happy I missed that deer. It reminds me of a time when I worked at a body shop for a summer in between school and this lady hit a deer in her Benz. Ohh god, that car was destroyed and it was a heavy, thick Mercedes.
I'd probably be cursing Honda for weak and flimsy sheet metal had I hit the deer, but I was lucky.
