Need a bodyshop recommendation!!!
Hi
Does anyone have a bodyshop they can recommend that does GOOD work? I suppose it doesnt matter if the person works out of their garage, but i'd like it more if it was an actual shop.
I'm looking to repaint my hatch, so if anyone has any firsthand experience it'd be great. Please include the location and price you've paid. We're in a recession so I'd like to get the best bang for my buck.
Thanks!

Not sure if you are looking for something more in the burbs, but I really have to recommend Guy and Son's in Chicago (1050 W. Van Buren). I went there to have them fix a shitty job a different place did. When I came to pick up the car, they said they couldn't give it to me. I was about to be pissed, but then he showed me why. There was the tiniest paint bubble, about the size of a pin *****, on the side of the bumper. I wouldn't have even noticed it if he didn't point it out. The guy said he wanted to keep it another day and respray. I probably would have been happy with it as is, but the guy was a perfectionist. I got the car the next day, inspected it under their lights, and it was perfect. Blended and matched exactly. IIRC, the price was a bit on the high side, but still reasonable.
J & L Auto Craft in Crest Hill. Close to Joliet. They do top notch work. I have seen many of there cars and he does mostly custom. Give him a call. (815)722-3666
if you want to swing by the dealer "roto" in arlington heights, we have a full bodyshop as well. they can give you a free estimate, and i can have them give you a better deal.
i've called a few places and they want to charge me around $3000+ for an entire paintjob (outside only). is this ridiclous or what?
let me hear what you paid!

If you can find a Maaco I would go to them, they did a fanominal job on my Em1. They also did my EX last year around this time and it was with their presidential grade paint, second worst, but still holds up strong as **** to this day.
yea, i've been to Maaco with my old car and i was NOT happy with the results. i will say, however, that each shop is different, and every now and then, i've heard of great results. i just dont want to go through it again.
so, can anyone throw out some prices of what they paid for a full exterior car repaint?

You do have to realize
Price for paint supplies are very very expensive..
color also depends a lot too.
I bought 1 gallon of New Formula Red for my s2000...505 dollar
Then add reducer
Clear
Hardner
Sealer/Primer
Sandpaper.
You are looking at almost 1000 in supplies.
Maaco does it cheap because most of their paint jobs are single stage and non buffable.
My shop did a complete color change on an EK from Red to Champ White.
We charged the guy 3500.
That included a mild wire tuck and complete color swap

yea, i guess paint supplies could add up. buy my car doesnt have any rust, but lots of dings here and there.
i guess i'm just confused because i seem to hear lots of people on the boards saying that they only paid $800 for a full exterior repaint, and anything over $1000 is too much. i'm just confused of what is actually accurate. then again, i figured that a eg hatchback is a pretty small car to paint... hmm i dont know.
