I've got a GSR short block with a b18b 89mm crank. I've got a built head so I'm planning to rev it over 9000rpm or until the turbo run out of breath.

Should I use oem honda b18b bearings or should I go with acl?

I hear some people use b18c rod bearings even when using a b18b crank. Is that safe?

 

honda bearing are color matched. I personally would use OEM bearing but you will hear a lot of people say ACL race bearings. As long as the bearing are within specs your good but my preference is OEM

 

OEM FTW. Just make sure the clearances are perfect, and dont try to be smarter than an engineer. Just use ls bearings w/ls rod or gsr w/gsr rods.

The rod has to be re-tanged. Also, you have to make sure the oil holes match up. (see thread link below)

I've read that the oem b18c bearings comes with a coating that the b18b bearings doesn't have. Making the b18c bearings better for high revving motors.

Can anyone confirm that?

 

B18C rod bearings are better because the tri-metal construction has a better lubricity. This allows the rod bearing to be more narrow than the b16a and b18b bearings.

 

I'm rebuilding my b16a2 block and I want to replace the bearings.

Could I use the b18c ones that you where talking about or they can only be use in b18c engines?

If using ACL do you prefer normal or race ones?

I will use Eagle H-Beam rods, do you know which color of oem bearings I need to use?

I run ACL Standards. There cheap. and seem to work well.

 

Too bad the ACLs don't come in different clearances like the oem bearings does. Might not work on every motor.

 

I bought ACL Race Bearings for my next years bottem end build. Either or is fine.

 

I have only seen one motor that wasent within spec!!

 

What do you guys recomend to use with eagle h-beam rods?

 

acl bearings are offered in various sizes

they have STD Size, .025 over, .25 Over, 1.00 over sizes in particular for the B18a/b Rod Bearings

those are for the race bearings

the basic bearings are offered in STD, .25 over, .50 over, .75 over and 1.00 over

we have been running the ACL Race Bearings in our racing engines with great success

 

B18b bearings are okay, but the GSR bearing is superior with it trimetal construction. Its also more narrow, and therefore has surface area, so it has less friction. Less friction=less heat, and slightly more power.
