I'm about to buy an 85' rt 4wd wagovan with a crapped out alternator, and belt. Wondering if it is going to be hard to replace because of the tranny. I've never been underneath a wagovan 4wd before and I'm not sure how the the drive shaft goes to the back of the car. I know the tranny on the wagovan looks crazy itself, but haven't seen the rest of it. If it's like any other d-series i should be able to do most of the wrenching from up top and pull the thing off. BUT, this is something new, anyone have an idea, on the easiest way to tackle this alternator would be?
Congrats on finding a rare old car. The drive shaft to to the rear should be the least of your worries (there is a special place in Hell for the guy who placed the water pump and alternator in Hondas).
Go to www.redpepperracing.com to see if they have a factory service manual online for the 4WD wagon (they have them for the Civic and CRX). Someone over there will know the answer to your question.
BTW- the '86-'89 Integra D16A1 will bolt up to your car's 4WD tranny

well I changed the alternator last night. No help from anyone really. Yes it is a biatch to replace, espcially in the cold weather. The only way to really get the alternator out with out too much hassel is to remove the exhaust header, and it falls right out. Otherwise everything is in your way. It was a goo 1 1/2 hours spent on this project, ugh. Case close.
