hey guys. . for those who have painted their intercooler piping what kind of paint have you used? my intercooler piping used to be polished alumium but it was all scratched up and hideous so i decided to sand down the scratches to make it smooth then i gave it a shot of silver spray bomb

now the thing is i had a temporary ventalation system until i found an oil catch can and the blow by that was vented seemed to be eating at my paint on my intercooler piping.

so when i sand it all down again what kind of paint should i use. . and should i clear coat it. . no one around here in this area does powder coating and its a daily driver and this owuld be a weekend project

so tell me how you guys did yours and laets see some pictures. . i was thiking of an electric blue. . dont know yet

this is my FUGLY thing. you can see how it turned everything brown and WONT wash out. . in a ocuple area's when i'd try and wash it off the paint would jsut come off like liquid(not shown in picture)





but now i have a jm fab catch can

so now i have a place for my blow by to go instead of all over my strut tower

so hopefully i can get your guy's advice and help a fellow member out

i know hope depot sells a clear in a can, worth a shot...

 

there is a c ouple places in down who can mix paint here and put it in a spray can. . what if i got them to mix me an 07 toyota tacoma blue and got an automotive clear coat form the same place?

would mixed automotive paint be oil resistant???

 

you got to be careful when mixing paints....if you spray an automotive paint over spray paint you have to be sure it is fully dry, you must be sure all of the solvents in it are evaporated or it will give the top layer a dull or hazy appearance (learned that one from experience, and I waited till the next day to spray the car)....it can also cause the top layer to bubble away like oil and water...Im not a paint expert and I cant exactly remember the reasons behind it, but it has something to do with acetone and enamels. Im sure someone can chime in and fill in the blanks for me.

 

I got mine powder coated wrinkle flat black. took about 30 minutes to do!

i'm also trying to look at what other people have and what they used to get ideas on what looks nice and whatnot.

the wrinkle paint would be hard to clean just like my valve cover would it not?

 

I will take some pics if I get a chance. its flat black unlike the red like your valve cover. so it doesnt really get dirty

I had my charge pipes and FMIC powderocated at work. I had a co-worker do all the work. The paint was the same stuff used on satellite dishes so it is robust. I even did my valve cover too.

 

VHT wrinkle black paint for engine covers, etc.. works pretty well and oil resistant too. I use it a lot on steel charge piping and no issues with oil and mild solvents.
