Default Oil on spark plugs

Traded my EF hatch for a 99 Integra which the motor was rebuilt in, I checked the plugs the other day and two of them had oil on the bottom of the plug. My first thought was great, piston rings are bad...well I replaced the Autolite plugs the dumb kid put in the car with a set on NGKs and checked them last night and there is no oil on any of them. The only thing I can think of is the kid said that he replaced the valve cover gasket before I got the car. Any idea's would be helpful.

How long did you run the car for? Could be slow/gradual...plus those things suck anyways...

Yea I know Autolite sucks, I was pretty surprised to see that he put those in there. Some people just don't think...

I have had the new plugs in the car for probably almost a week.

well i've had that problem too and its either the spark plug gromets or there is also a gasket in between the rocker arms and the head if he had the head completely apart then they could have been damaged.

Is not the spark plug grommets because there is no oil where the wires connect to the plugs. I am almost positive the head has not been apart, but it does have a bad case of valve lash I need to fix. haha

valve cover gasket where the spark plug area is? if not then its your headgasket the seals are bad thats why you have oil on the plugs.

It's not the spark plug seals, I know for sure. Wouldn't I have coolant in my oil if I had a blown headgasket? The car also doesn't have any overheating problems which may be due to a blown HG.

It doesn't really make any sense.

If I had to choose one it would be the oil fouled, but there was no oil on the actual bridge or anything which is weird. It was mostly on the threads of the plug. I guess the only thing I can do now is drive it and see if it does it again. I don't really want to tear into it and replace a head gasket, head studs, and valve stem seals.

I think the problem may be due to the fact I had NO PCV valve whatsoever, along with both the top and bottom hoses missing.

Can you get a miss fire if one of those plugs have oil?

If you have oil on your plug(s), yes you can get a misfire.

I used OEM rings, and its still have oil.

What does a misfire fell like? or sound? Cause my car studders at idle sometimes. Will a misfire do that? or is it one of the following: Fast Idle thermo, PVC valve, timing adjustment, or valve adjustment? thanks

I have the same problem, changed my plugs today and found oil on the threads of plugs 2 & 3. I did have my head gasket redone about 2 years ago, so that could be the culprit, and it obviously appears to be burning oil, but otherwise the car runs well. It's also been about 1.5 years since I had a valve adjustment so I'm thinking it's time.

My car has 214k on the clock so i'm thinking the rings are probably just worn out. Keep me posted if you make any progress on your car.

Put the PCV system back on my car and it seems like it may have fixed the problem...it smokes some when I first drive it but goes away quickly.
