what material are you guys using to make turbo downpipes
thinking of what material to make downpipes out of i made a few sets out of 16ga stainless but i think its too heavy for dual downpipes.
What have you guys used and prefer to use.

16gauge is especially nice if you are plumbing a wastegate dump back in- just gives you a bit of meat to work with when welding another pipe on- usually at a crazy angle.

i work at a composite shope and deal with crabon fiber alot. im thinking of making a carbon downpipe. iv never heard of it being done before mainly due to the resin melting/smoking off, however im getting a sample of an epoxy that will handel 2000+ degrees (f)
ill post some pics some day when i get it underway

That would be pretty sweet!
And to the OP, I use 16G for everything downpipe related.
[QUOTE=Agtronic;37565701]This I want to see! Will it hold up to the vibration and movement of the exhaust system?
That would be pretty sweet!
yes it deff. will, the only prob. is the price of it. (if it was to ever be distributed) would be insane.. for the looks and weight savings.. might as well go with ss..
we have made some before, but it was for a 150' power yaght..(for rich ********
,) but that was never ment to be seen or need to be light weight, it was strictly for its physical features..

I have aluminum on my car, it doesnt like the antilag too much as mine wasnt bolted to anything and the thrust of the backfiring kinda shifted it but its held up to quite a few track sessions with no issues
I posted about a full aluminum exhaust on my s2k, and many of the relipes said that their aluminum downpipes started to sag after some anti-lag use and high load runs on the track.
I havent had any sag problems,
My issue was that it was a side exit downpipe with a turn down on it, and me not thinking of the pressure or amount of thrust coming out of it on the antilag, dont know how i missed that. had it ran under the motor like anormal downpipe it would have been fine, or maybe atached in the stock bracket tab on the back of the motor, but it wa scheap for material so I can build another
the most expensive part is the 4inch aluminum V band, like 80 bucks
