Hey everyone,

So, this morning I went into work and everything was fine with the car. I came back out 10 hours later and got in, started up just fine, and all that jazz. Only thing is, neither my heat, nor A/C work on the climate control settings 1 or 2. However, when I set it to 3 and 4, the heat and A/C work just fine.

I drive a 92 sedan. Could this be the climate control unit itself? Or is it more likely the blower motor or blower motor relay?

No dice. I replaced with a unit from a working civic. Still only works on settings 3 and 4.

Any other suggestions?

 

I just finished replacing the blower motor since it was squealing anyways, no difference. Going to check the blower motor relay next.

 

I would check the relay myself. I know in a lot of other cars the switch or blower's setting resistors can blow, causing this. I'm not 100% on the layout of our Civics though

 

Looks like we found the answer........the blower motor resistor is shot.

 

Hello! I have a similar problem in a 92 DX. At first the 1 and 2 speeds weren't working, only 3 and 4 worked. That lasted for about a year and now 3 and 4 are not working also. Sometimes they do turn on, but rarely...
I took the switch out of the dash and tested it with multimeter. It does have connections on all of the speeds. But I don't know what to test next.

Could it also be a resistor? Even if the 4th speed is not working? Where is that resistor located?

 

I'm not an electrician by any means, so hopefully someone with more knowledge than me can answer your question about the 4th setting. However, if it were me I'd try that resistor. It's in the airbox behind your glovebox. Here's a thread that I found really useful.

I found the problem! It was actually the plug that connects to the blower motor. Every time I would move it, the blower would go on and off. I used a screwdriver to squeeze the pins closer, so now it works just fine (on 3rd and 4th). Now next thing is to replace the resistors
