Need some advise on purchase of used '03
Hi,
I am considering purchasing a one owner, '03 EX V6, 145k miles, allegedly all highway.
For$8k (New England), was thinking this was a bit much for this many miles.
I have seen a cpl others EX V6's for same money with ~90k miles, but I like the colors of this cars better, and trust the guy I'm buying it from that it was well maintained, and this one does look like-new.
How concerned should I be that this car has that many miles as far as how much more I will get out of it.
I had a maxima that was going on 240k miles with never any problems at all. Can I expect that this engine will get to 300k if taken car of?
Thanks in advance for your opinion,
Stephen

The only sketchy item will be the transmission. The '03-04 V6 transmissions, although improved, still had trouble like the earlier '98-02 V6es. They didn't completely fix the underlying transmission issues until '05.
That's not to say that you'll have trouble, but it can happen. Check his records to see if the transmission fluid was changed every 30,000 miles.
Why do you want a V6? The EX-L 4-cylinder is a safer buy; the engines and transmissions have proven to be bulletproof, and there's no timing belt to require changing.

Well, I've never owned a 4cyl car, not necessarily opposed to it.
I do plan on test driving a 4 cyl version of this car, one for sale near me at a used car dealer, but its missing some of the features of the one in question, and I'm not in love with the interior and exterior colors.

the 4 cylenders are not bullet proof if you dont change your oil at 3 to 5k you will strech the chain out and this is a myth that you never have to chage it i do it all the time go with the v6 and just change your tranny fluid every other oil change and you will be fine
i had a 98 accord 4 cyl and i liked it but then i bought the 03 accord v-6 coupe and the car feels so much more smoother.........i love it way more then the 4cyl also i bought the car maybe a year ago with 27k miles for 16,500 out the door leather sunroof really nice car its white
Well let me say this if u pick a car for the way it looks and how the color looks new and stuff , ull end up with an onerment in ur driveway cuz the engine seized, if u really want a v6 accord and it seems like u really want this car, i would keep looking cuz u may find the same car with lesser miles and more features cuz 145k is high , if u have ur heart set on the v6 then thats what u should get ,but theres always a better deal out there...just my 2cents...

I have an 03 EX V6 Sedan, and I love it. So smooth, and plenty of power for passing. Of course, I only have 62k miles, so I can't say how much farther you can go with that one. It sure has a lot of miles.

I disagree to a degree, if a car is well maintained on the inside and out the motor is usually taken care of. I would check the maintenance records for tranny fluid changes (as mentioned above), automatics to me are always iffy. You can always find a better deal but that just means you'll never buy anything so if your going to get something get it. I say go with the manual k24 and slap a k20 head on it.
