How far can it rev ? 9K SOHC ? HWO MUCH POWER ? HELP
ok, i just finished my 94 civic all motor sohc build,
motor currently has 2## miles on it, { 200 somthing}, not even broke'n all the way,
few questions, are what power should it make around {ESTIMATE} and how far is it safe to rev:
MY SPECS
D16A6 block, HIGH COMP RINGS<NEW STOCK 91 d16a6 PISTONS<micro-polished crank.also shaved a tiny bit i think it was 0.005 5thousanths or someting like that.
2 layer y7 metal head gasket
D16Z6 head, stock all new oem, fully ported and polished+port mached z6 intake and ls TB.
Stage 1 clutch, and 8LB flywheel.
Car revs to 7,500 EASY and very very wuick, i dont want to go past that as i dont want to pass the limits, but what u gys think its safe ?
vtec is set at 4,800 and hits HARD AS ****, u feel it pull, right now i have a vx tranny as im rebuilding my si tranny, but car feels like it can rev to 9k in 1 second, { IM NOT GOING TO DO THAT}
what is safe limit, and whats estimate power it will make ?
also would a launch control at 3,000 be good with a 8lb flywheel ??

rigns were bought and they are stronger aftermarket ones is what i mean, and also ac race bearings, but what should be the average rev lmiter ?

i have rev'd my sohc mini-me zc w/zex cam to 8200 ish (stock b16 ecu), it ran fine but i'm sure it didn't make power up there, but it was no problem on the stock valve train.
well, hooked up the rpm laptop software and did a run on the street, and it looks like from the throttel graph and feels that up to 7,400 its making powerthen 7,600 u can feel it just sound higher pitch and thats it,
gbut what i mean is that the motor just wants to go, if i hold it at 2k rpm in 1 st gear and FLOOr it the tires spin out, and i havw to let off, its very easy to overrev it because it revs so fast,
but im getting a new spec chip map, soon i will put rev limiter were ever i stopmaking power on dyno,
for na street driving, u think 3K LAUNCH CONTROL would be fine ?

im gonna go with stock or a skunk2 cam. no you shouldnt rev that high, you stop making power at 7200 on the stock cam no matter what you got ported or polished. Tuna and SOHCinWA are using LARGE profile cams and can rev that high to make power still, with your setup, you wont make any power there especially if your head is all oem, yor valvtrain is gonna hate you at 9k RPM, as well as your tranny
You have a fully ported and polished head using stock valve train including cam. If I were to take a guess I would say your not going to be making much power after stock red line. But like CC has stated twice now, A dyno is the only way for you to see where your power drops off. That will tell you your max RPM. Now here is my question to you how much do you figure a completely stock, OEM, valve train can handle?
Does it keep accelerating up to 9k is the real question. Is your answer.
