What chassis, motor and wiring harness would be beneficial to better help us in answering our question.

you really should get a P28 ECU and an OBD1/OBD2 ECU conversion wire harness

wiring info
http://hondacivicforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=73241

for OBD1 (which is what you'll be referencing for ECU pinouts if you get a conversion harness and a P28) on a D-series, pay attention to pins A4 and D6

well the P28 is made for the D16Z6 engine, so it would possibly run a tiny bit better. The Z6 and Y8 have slightly different cams. It's negligible, but OBD1 is better anyways. Less stuff to worry about during the swap, less stuff that can throw a code. Plus if you ever plan on going turbo, you can chip the P28. You can't chip an OBD2 ECU.

yes, that is true. another reason why a P28 is easier to use.

by the way your talking it sounds like you dont know what your getting into. to have vtec you need a vtec ecu. you cant simply hook it up for a little bit without one. and you cant add vtec with a tach.

fuel rail = no. stocks fine. supports huge amounts of power.

injectors = depends on setup (all motor/turbo/type of gas)

borrow your friends ecu if you want it for "a day"
idk why you would waste your time
get an obd2-obd1 jumper harness and run a p28
and get rid of all your check engine lights or no vtec anyways

If you really wanna just hook it up run a wire to a power source, like your radio or fuse box. That'll make the vtec come on but the ecu you have isn't going to let you take advantage of vtec. You'll most likely hear it not feel it. And it will be on all the time unless you unplug it. Not to mention you'll probably throw codes. Just get a p28 and conversion harness like stated. You wont mess s**t up that way.

when vtec engages what all does the ecu change, is it just the cam lobes or does it add more fuel etc. Can someone please help me out here i am sure mine isn't working right but i know the lobes are engaging it just doesn't feel or sound like it is engaging. It's not that I really care about the sound but I used to be able to tell that it was engaging by the sound and the power now i don't have either. So what other things does the ecu change. For some reason i have found that it seems like nobody on here really knows what all it does, or i am just finding the wrong people. Trust destruction im gonna call you out on this one you know your stuff and i see you have been posting on this thread ... HELP ME OUT man i am in need!
