This a DIY on how to install EK fogs on an EG bumper. I did alot of research on this conversion and there many different way to this. BEWARE this conversion is a one shot deal unless you have an extra bumper laying around.

Step 1.
Take bumper off.

Step 2.
Get your tools. This is what I used.


Step 3.
Get a fine point Sharpie and draw an outline of the you need to cut like you see in the pic.


Step 4.
I used the cutting discs to make it easy to use the knife for cutting. Start cutting on the line.

When finished pop out what you cut.


Step 5.
Place fog light covers over the holes you cut out. Then get you drill and drill mounting holes for some screws. I did 3 screws for each side.



Step 6.
Turn bumper over and place the fogs lights on the covers. Place the upside down they fit better.

Then screw the lights into the covers.


Step 7.
There are mounting holes in the center plastic of the bumper. Place a screw in the hole. Take two zip ties and tie them around the screw and insert through the hole of fog light bracket. Take the 3rd zip tie wrap it around the other two tighten it. Tighten the screw into the mounting hole keeping underneath the head of the screw.


Step 8.
The lights should be in the right position and they should be on tight.



Step 9.
Take off the bumper support. The bumper will not go on if the support is still on. Take off bumper support.

Step 10.
For some reason the lights were hit the Bumper Support. You need to give it a little trim. Grab a Sharpie and make a mark along the lip.



Step 11.
I went to a muffler shop and got the Bumper Support cut for no charge.



Step 12.
Bolt the Bumper Support back on.



Do a test fit and it slides right on.

REVISED:::

Step13.
Relocate the horn underneath passenger headlight.


Step 14.
Wire your lights to a switch. Put bumper back on.

With the lights on.

 

I like the idea and I applaud the effort in creating this DIY, but personally I wouldn't want to do that to my car. A frontal collision would be a nightmare.

I'm pretty sure that is technically the actual "bumper" of your car. The plastic piece that everyone refers to as the bumper is technically a "bumper cover".

 

looks good.
removing the bumper beam definitely sounds pretty dangerous though. i wouldn't recommend that anyone do that.

Nice idea, but I'm going to have to hope x2 that you aren't in a frontal collision, because your front end is going to get destroyed.

 

Agreed. Aesthetically, looks good.

However, you should really consider the potentially dangerous safety concerns of removing your bumper support -- I understand you might be willing to take risks as the owner/driver, but have you considered the safety of any passengers in your car who aren't aware of this modification you've made? Also, it's probable that the removal of your bumper support will void your 3rd party liability insurance and you'll be on the hook for covering the full amount of medical or funeral costs in case of injury or death of your passengers. Likely, this will total in the hundred of thousands, if not millions of $... especially if you are in the US. At minimum, you should ask your insurance agency if what you've done has affected your policy.

I'm going to hazard a guess here, that it was never your intention to have to remove the bumper support... it was only after you started to put the bumper back on that you realized it didn't fit properly. Instead of concluding this was a failed experiment, you proceeded to remove the bumper support without considering, or perhaps disregarding, the safety ramifications. You have chosen fashion over function, and this is rarely a wise decision.

You would be well advised to try to make the bumper cover with the EK fog lights fit properly with the bumper support intact. Your DIY will be much better received by the community and you will not be chastised as negligent of the safety of your passengers.

 

Maybe he could swap a trimmed bumper beam on (trimmed where it was interfering with the fogs)

 

too much time and too much money......follow the engineer KISS principle.....Keep It Sweet & Simple.

 

Looks great, however now the chance of the intake manifold replacing your cranium in a head-on collision just dropped from 110mph to 50mph. Your car will also flex in ways it wasn't designed to.

I've read all of your posts and I've been working on the bumper support. Safety is an issue. Once I fix the problem I'll revise my DYI. Thank You for your input.

 

OEM fogs look better, and don't require zipties to mount.

Good luck with getting the support to work with these though.


Did you mess up on the Gunmetal colored front? Midway through your DIY, that bumper became white.

 

Looks good. I would have used clear silicon instead of screws to make it look more flush with the bumper. And yea, put the beam back in there. Trim a little if you have to, but get that done asap. A fender-bender would probably destroy your core support at this point.

The pics of the gunmetal bumper was from another thread. I never got a chance to take pics of my bumper being cut out. I need to do some cutting on a bracket on both lights and maybe on the bumper support.

 

i look forward to seeing what you do about that beam.

this is a really good idea though, i've never seen anyone do this and it actually looks pretty damn good.

how good does the beam shine? any problems getting them aimed properly?

 

I haven't had any problems with aiming the lights. It's weird that the fogs fit right upside down and reversed (the left fog on the right and vice versa). These fogs are alot brighter than the eg's. I'm working on the bumper support issue and i'll keep you guys posted.

 

Shouldn't removed the support. It fits fine with support. Just aim the light beam, you need to take them apart to adjust the spring so it points the lighting downward.

 

Althought I completely agree with this statement, that beam is so low that you aren't going to make contact with all of the SUV's, Trucks and vans that are out there. Even a stock ride height civic's bumper beam is lower than the general population let alone a lowered one. Either way, I wouldn't remove it.

 

Alright guys I put the bumper support back on. I made a revision to my DIY in my original post. Originally the fogs were getting hung up on the bumper support. That's why I took it off. I think this is a cool conversion and thank you to you guys on Honda-tech for getting me off my *** to make this DIY more safer. Here's the revision:

I think he does have his bumper support on all he did was trim the bottom . Its looks nice but not something i would do .

 

you didnt need to cut the support. Always a will, always a way.

 

read the entire thread before you try to correct people... he had the bumper support off and then we advised him to make it work with the bumper support so he put it back on and trimmed it. Then he edited the first post to include this new modification.
