Your supposed to take the carbon off the top of the pistons?

yeah the plate got hit with some chunks off my gsr trans. not good, but still performs fine

I'll finish it in spring, but there was so much gunk on it i wish i took a pic of it before..

I think im powdercoating my fat 5's white, calipers black, and vc white or black im leaning white because 50% of civics are black, and id like to powdercoat the alt. bracket and some more little stuff black so it doesnt look crappy.

only thing is i'm not sure how white rims will look on a red car?

you dont have to clean them... When you get too much build up you can potentially get valve tap... plus alot of that **** can do some damage over time

how does one clean the tops of pistons safely without fluid and such going into the cylinder walls.

I use a little bit of motor oil and a rag.. Never had anything ruin my cylinder walls... As you wont be touching them anyway..

Who cares if the degreaser hits the cylinder walls? You will be cleaning the rings while your at it also.. Once its all cleaned use brakeclean to get around the piston, and then use compressed air until no more carbon is coming out from around them, then lower the piston, and pour in some oil and rock the crank back and forth a few times to re-coat the rings and walls, then let it sit. I've done this on several motors and all it has done is good.

I'd change the oil before running the motor again afterwards also.

++1111 for carbon building compression. That and jb welding coins to your piston tops.
But seriously, please buy a rear main seal.
