Default quick thermostat question

so today i found the reason my vtec wasn't working was 2 faulty wirea. I got it working by running new wires from the ecu, then after i drove it i re ran the wires in the conduit with the rest of the wires. After i had got the wires in the conduit with the other wires i took it out for another drive. Then i noticed the temp gauge was barely reading anything. I know it was working before i reran the wires through the conduit. I don't think it is a faulty gauge because it moved from the bottom of the c to the center of the c. But what could i have done that would cause this. I would assume i must have bumped a wire or something. Could it be that the t stat is stuck open, it was getting coolant the pipe coming off the engine was warm. I know i drove it long enough for it to get to operating temp. What should i check

thanks i really appreciate that i think it is quite possible the wire may have got disconnected or damaged coming off the sending unit because i ran the vtec wires in the same bundle as that wire so maybe i hit it with a knife or something. Ill do those tests in a little bit hopefully i can fix the problem easily i don't feel like messing around with this
