6th Gen 4cly Auto Tranny Questions
Today, on my '01 4cly auto I noticed that when I first start turn the car on, the D4 square light flashes ONCE (and only once) really quickly and then goes off and acts completely normally the rest of the time the car is on. And I get NO CEL either. Car shifts as smooth as day 1 and NEVER slips or acts squirrelly.
I searched and found nothing relating to this specific question (saw lots of D4 blinking questions but this doesn't blink, just flashes once), especially since I got no CEL.
Also, I know the car is due for tranny fluid and the general consensus just drain/change it right? No "flush" because this could be harmful, correct?
I'd appreciate only experienced answers from people who know what's going on here, not guesses or "I heard" responses. Thanks H-T

For the 1998 and later Honda chassis, it's all one and the same. Honda incorporated the TCM with the ECM and renamed it the PCM (Powertrain Control Module. One Data Port for everything.
Now, as to your question:
At one point DeathZone Auto Parts offered the service, but I've heard that they may have discontinued with it.
I can't comment on Advanced (Parts America) Auto Parts. I've never used them.

Yes, I already have some. Thanks.
Well after talking to Advance, the dude was very rude and wouldn't even attempt to check the code since I didn't have a CEL. So I talked to Honda and the tech told me that its almost certainly just low tranny fluid. He said as long as its not blinking, there isn't a problem and to just add fluid (which I planned on doing anyway).
So where is the drain plug located for the tranny fluid? Is it right under the dipstick area? And what size is the bolt? Sorry, I'm a total n00blet when it comes to auto trans. I did the H22 swap on my 5th gen but my 6th gen is totally stock and I never do anything to it since its the wife's car lol.
Just wanna have everything planned out so I spend as little time as possible under the car with it being so cold here (40 degrees is cold to us here in NC!!!).

Trust me i know how cold it is in NC cause I live here too. What i'll do is take it back to honda and see what they say. But you know you will get hit with that service charge just for them to look at. and that's like 60 Bux or so. But if you can think that you can get away just by draining the fluid hell try it!!! Do those tranny's have the tranny screen to keep the clean? Ok i just talk to one of my friend about a min. ago the computer is goin into diagnostic mode which is something is wrong with the tranny now. The same thing happend to a 95 accord that my friend had come to find out the car lost overdrive and when the fluid was change the overdrive came back. Now you have solonoids (if i spelled that right) that's on the tranny sometimes those will go up to. Hope this helps!!

The D4 turns on for a sec similarly to the check engine light. It is a self test, and that's perfectly normal. If it starts flashing (it will be obvious), then you have a problem.
Anyway, I drained/refilled the fluid three times and refilled it for the last time with Honda ATF. So it should be good now for a while.
