My ITR shift knob needs protection (a.k.a. condom)
ok..so i live in texas , my ITR is black , it gets hella hot inside the car, and i swear that shift **** has burned my hand good....cant even touch it to shift...i know other peeps must have this problem, but what do ya doo about it....i've tried using a sock, even put the ashtray on top of it...but its still to f*ckin hot.....
Why don't you put a condom over it?
Seems like it'd work.
EDIT:
Have you ever tried to keep it cool rather than trying to keep it from burning your hand?

i have a handtowel i toss over it when it sits in the sun...and if its still hot to the touch even after being covered....i just shift with the towel still on it, works fine.
When I had my black R, it would come close to branding the shift pattern in my palm, and I was thinking up some dinky little shift **** sleeve, with some aluminized thermal reflective foil beneath a piece of cloth like the seat cloth on the bolsters...I like the way that stuff feels. but I think someone already makes something like that...
tsunami_zc - the best one to use is Oakley softee suglass sock thingie. It's just the right length and it doesn't heat up that badly being it's soft synthetic material.
Someone once told me at an autocross to make a little aluminum foil wrap the size of the *** and place over it when the sun was out - they said it would reflect the sun and keep the heat off. I haven't tried this myself, but would be curious as to it working or not...

it gets hot in louisiana
Yeah, my hand got owned by my shift **** one time I went to a IMSTAR drag racing event. Luckily it was so hot outside my shirt was already off and provided protection on it. ..had to switch the shirt from the shifter to the steering wheel for about 10 mins straight. It seriously hurt like hell. A member here's interior got melted that day. Heat =

I keep a car towel in my car to throw over it on hot days. It still gets hot though. Really the only thing is get a different shift ****. It gets exceptionally cold too, when the weather conditions are right.
Edit: I also have nearly burned my hand on it.
